So I am officially menopausal, last period June 2016, peri since about 2006.

It's all been fairly tolerable apart from reduced sleep* and feeling quite hot sometimes.

*why I am posting at this time of night

you could keep few in the guest bathroom just in case someone is in need.
btw congratulations :) it's a great feeling to not have periods!!

DownEasterAlexa · 19/11/2017 01:08

Thank you OldWitch I have mixed feelings but it is nice to have a positive approach

Congratulations! It's nearly a year since my last period (I had a hysterectomy) and I still feel a sense of relief and happiness when I walk past the sanitary towel section in the supermarket, and when I'm going on holiday or planning for a special occasion and don't have to worry that my period might strike. It's wonderful to be free of them.

JaneJeffer · 19/11/2017 01:41

I have a full carrier bag of sanitary towels because I had stocked up so much due to never-ending heavy periods and I can't quite believe I won't need them any more!

Dumbledoresgirl · 19/11/2017 01:46

I had my last period nearly 2 years ago but I still have my tampons and even carry one in my handbag. I can't quite get over a lifetime of being caught out by the buggers. Hmm

Want2bSupermum · 19/11/2017 01:52

jane donate them to the local food pantry. I'm always picking up extra for our shelter. No one thinks to donate them for some reason.

DownEasterAlexa · 19/11/2017 08:54

I wasn't sure if I could donate them anywhere, they are just lose in a bag.

Why not leave them in a ladies loo somewhere?

LittleWitch · 19/11/2017 09:09

I have a bagful which I have kept in case of need by a visitor e.g. DDiL (although she is pg atm). I discovered the other day that I have a full kit of spare pants, tampons, towels, tranexamic acid and norethisterone in my work overnight bag and I'm two years in! Menopause has changed my life for the better.

DownEasterAlexa · 19/11/2017 09:15

Menopause has changed my life for the better. I'd agree to that, don't know whether I've had it easy because I started relatively young. I do wonder if there's worse to come.

I am so glad to be free of periods, I think it is about two years for me now ....hot flushes have also now stopped and sleep is back to normal 😊

DownEasterAlexa · 19/11/2017 12:18

Thanks blue that's good to hear.

Do any of you use hrt?

I'm Peri and debating whether to go on it?

blueskydreams · 19/11/2017 12:45

I didn't use hrt

ScreamingValenta · 19/11/2017 12:55

No, at least, not yet - luckily none of my menopause symptoms have been unmanageable (hot flushes mild and infrequent and no other issues) and my general health has improved immeasurably, so I don't want to rock the boat. My GP has said I can have it whenever I want it, so I'm keeping my options open.

JaneJeffer · 19/11/2017 13:46

Want2b there's nothing like that where I live but maybe a charity shop would take them.

hmm I don't use HRT. I still get hot flushes but they're not as bad now except for the night sweats which I hate. Seem to be over the worst. I'm a bit wary of HRT because I've had problems with the pill before. Haven't spoke to GP about it.

hmmmmm · 19/11/2017 14:12

I can't take the pill. I'm ok at the moment plus magnesium is helping. Just wondered for the future.

DownEasterAlexa · 19/11/2017 14:36

I haven't taken hrt as I didn't feel I needed it. Apart from irregular periods for years and few achy joints I've been fine. No period for over a year now, a few night sweats but no hot flushes. I'm 47.

Fosterdog123 · 19/11/2017 14:41

I didn't have a period for 2 years and then I woke up to one the other month. Wtf, thought I but thankfully, I'd kept a few tampons and pads buried at the bottom of a drawer. If I were you, I'd keep a few just in case!!

PollyPerky · 19/11/2017 15:03

Foster The rule is to see your GP is this happens. Any bleeding 12 months or more after your last period is classed as post menopausal bleeding and requires an urgent scan. If you are young ( maybe under 45 ) and periods stopped early, it could be your ovaries waking up again, but PLEASE see your GP for some tests just to be sure. Don't ignore it.

OldWitch00 · 19/11/2017 15:47

Hmmm no HRT for me either. Mild hot flashes and difficulty staying asleep my only symptom.

Fosterdog123 · 20/11/2017 07:35

Polly - I did go to the gp. There is an issue but I was just making the point to the op about keeping products just in case.
