Hi I'm 53 been on hrt for a while now unfortunately the hrt that suited me was discontinued so I was put on femesten Conti in January I was spotting a lot and flushes started so in May my doctor upped me to the 1mg flushes stopped and seemed ok on them except I kept spotting with the period pains I agreed with my doctor in August that we will try a little longer to see if it setteled itself in September then I had2 full on periods within 2 weeks of each other went back last week and she now changed my hrt to nouvelle continuous which straight away is giving me stomachs cramps everyday and I'm feeling sick as any one been on these ones I was wondering if these symptoms would settle at the moment I feel like going back on the femosten and just putting up with the bleeding

Jan- not being funny, but there are no full stops in your post and it's a bit hard to follow some of it.

Were you put on HRT in January or were you already on it and started spotting then?

Both Femoston conti and Nouvelle Conti are continuous if that is what you had. Or was it Femoston sequi as I don't think there is a conti version. And 1mg is the lowest dose anyway..

Can you clarify?

But bleeding for the first 6 months is normal and expected with any type of conti HRT.

I was on femoston continuous 0.5mg in January then switched to femoston continuous 1mg in May . Before January I was on primque which I was fine on but have been discontinued I have now been on nuvelle for 5 days and got terrible stomachs cramps and feeling sick

I don't understand why your dr changed you to Nuvelle when you were getting on okay with Femoston 1mg.

What was the logic behind this?

The progestogen in femoston is generally better tolerated than the one in Nuvelle.

You could also consider using patches as they are a) safer re blood clots and b) don't give stomach upsets which pills can do.

She changed them because I was bleeding all the time on the femoston, I am thinking of just changing them back and just put up with the bleeding

Some things to think about:

1 How far into meno are you? Have you had at least 12 months with no natural period? if not, then conti is not right for you. You'd be better off with sequi. You may just not be ready for conti.

2 Bleeding for at least 6 months - off and on- is to be expected with any conti HRT until the balance between the two hormones in each pill stops the lining thickening then you will have no more bleeding.

3 Patches are better anyway.

4 You don't have to use conti HRT even if you are post menopause. You could use Femoston sequi which would give you a regular monthly bleed at a predictable time.

Thanks for the replys I have no idea how far into the meno I am I started 4 years ago was told I w as premenopausal then , and I was put on hrt with a mini pill at that point as I was bleeding every 10 days so no I hvnt had a 12 month free without a period . After about 2 years they took me off mini pill and changed my hrt to premquie which suited me and I did not bleed at all on them but unfortunately they was discontinued January that's when I went on femostan and all the problem started I have tried the patches in the past but as I go abroad quite often they kept coming off so that's why I've stuck to the tablets

Clearly, you ought not to be on a contri regime. I despair at GPs at times re. HRT.

The breakthrough bleeding is quite possibly your own cycle breaking through. The rule for conti HRT is 12 months with no natural period OR older than age 54.

How old are you?

You need to go onto a sequi regime with a monthly bleed.

53 and thank you I've learnt more off here than what my gp as told me you have been a great help I am stopping the nouvelle 2nte I've only been on them 5 days and I feel really sick really bad headache and stomach cramps I'll restart the femostan until I can get to see my doctor do you think that that would be ok to do that

Hi I'm new to this site. I'm 38 just been diagnosed with premature ovarian failure. Stopped pill to try for another baby went to doctors with dizziness next thing I know no more babies 😢 I started elleste duet just over 1 week ago and since starting the joint pain I'm getting is horrendous especially in my fingers and knee.doctor said could be side effect I might need time for my body to get used to the tablets. Will these side effects go away? I'm really emotional crying all the time hormones are just all over the place 😣

PollyPerky · 24/01/2018 22:11

It might be best to start your own thread on this because it's getting muddled up with the OP's here from ages back.

But while I'm here...the HRT in 1 week won't be giving you joint pain; that was likely to happen anyway as it's related to loss of estrogen.

Why not hop over to the Daisy Network website which is for women with POF- lots of info there.

Emerald13 · 24/01/2018 22:15

I think you have to give more time to your body to adjust! It's horrible I know but things will be better if hrt suits you! I'm on hrt last 6 months and feel better day to day. I'm 42 and I had insomnia, joint pains too.
