What do I need to budget for HRT patches???

I THINK that because there are two different types within the same prescription that I will be charged double - is that right??

I think it's for three months to start with.

Is that worthwhile me getting a prescription pre-payment thingy for three months...? What would that take my prescription amount down to bearing in mind it's 2 x £8.60 at the moment??

I can't believe that on the same prescription you're charged twice - I bet if it was tablets for bilateral sore bollocks it would be one bloody price!!

if its a sequential patch then you are charged twice, after my initial 3 months my gp let me have a 6 month prescription.

Yes, if it was for a man it would probably be free!!

On the plus side they are bloody brilliant.

Get a prepaid nhs card online
Costs £29.10 for 3 months or £10.40 a month for a year
Covers all prescriptions

Sounds good thanks guys - I nearly died when I went to get them earlier!!!

Do you physically receive a card in the post or how does it work?????

I'm stoked to try it cos although my thyroid and hormone levels have come back fine, I've got:
constant piddling
wire-like chin hairs
lacklustre hair
lacklustre skin
total appalling brain fog and memory
knackered all the time

Menopause probably being masked by the Implanon implant - even that's a laugh - total contraceptive protection, and having absolutely NO sex!!!! You couldn't make it up. Still, never mind because the massive endless need to eat at the moment (also menopause related???) means no one would want to shag me anyway!!!!

mine

I’ve just started a pre- payment prescription card. I’ve got high blood pressure, asthma and now HRT. ITs a no brainier!

InflagranteDelicto · 28/09/2017 21:06

Two or more charges a month (and combined HRT with two different drugs carries 2 charges) and a pre-payment card is cheaper. Order it online, it's approximately. £30 for 3 months or £10.40 a month for 10 months for a year one. You can also set it up to automatically renew which is a godsend for plonkers like me. You'll get a little card which should be shown each time, but if you've forgotten it's not a biggie. Make sure you tick box F.

Also, if you have it every month speak to your pharmacy about getting set up on their repeat prescription service.

Fab - thanks to you all and the expert advice as well! I shall get one ordered as I'm picking the drugs up tomorrow and I think I can get a refund if I show the card after this - I've kept my receipts.

Make sure it's an NHS receipt, that's the only one refunds can be claimed on. They're an A4 sheet, filled out by the staff, and have the pharmacy stamp. When you order the card, back date it to the date on the earliest receipt, I always recommend the day before to cover your arse.

keeponworking · 28/09/2017 22:29

Phew - just completed the order for the card - I dated it for today so hopefully I'll be ok - and that will match the receipts I was given - when I go to pick them up tomorrow I'll ask about the NHS receipt - thanks for that as I didn't know about needing that with a pharmacy stamp on it.

It's a bit bad that no Dr has ever told me about this - and I was on Sertraline for a few months and it was costing a blasted fortune!

PricklyBall · 28/09/2017 22:37

Mine are on a repeat prescription, so the double prescription charge is for 3 months' worth (so it looks to me like if HRT is all you're on, a pre-payment card won't be cheaper).

In my case the massive urge to eat cleared up with the start of HRT. Still have wiry chin hairs though.

keeponworking · 28/09/2017 22:55

This is Very Bad News Prickly - is there nothing that can tackle these hairs from hell?

Tweezers?

A lot of pharmacies won't mention it unless they've joined the dots. GPS? They're great at many things, but reducing prescription costs for the customer isn't one of them Grin And if it's busy and we're short staffed our service quality drops to reduce queue time.
The NHS receipts are filled out on request by hand, so you'll know if you have one! The reverse looks like a back of a prescription, so you fill it out with your evidence, and we process it.

keeponworking · 28/09/2017 23:39

Thanks Inflagrante - nah, tweezers etc etc etc etc don't work (I did a whole thread on this, there's just about no cure aside from electrolysis - these little buggers are DETERMINED!!! Even lasers don't work on them).

I did see a documentary about the pressure pharmacists are under and just how many they have to process each day, the business, the being so busy whilst trying not to make errors and all - always difficult when so much precision is needed. Thank you!
