Just got my prescription for HRT

48, Hysterectomy in June but kept my ovaries, suffering from terrible night flushes/ sweats, fatigue and achy joints.

GP has prescribed 1mg Elleste Solo - 3 month course and have to go back then to reassess.

He told me there’s a 5 year limit to taking HRT which I know is rubbish but at this point I wasn’t going to rock the boat.

He did advise me on pros and cons but nothing I don’t already know from here and Menopause Matters.

The proof will be in the pudding.

Hi BG. I am 47 and been taking the 1mg estelle since August. Went again yesterday as not dealing with the hot flushes, upped it to 2mg. Good luck!

estuarygirl · 30/09/2017 22:52

*elleste i mean. See how it's addled my brain.

BG2015 · 01/10/2017 08:04

On no, let’s hope the 2mg works.

I don’t know if it’s a fluke but I didn’t have one hot flush last night and apart from briefly waking at 3am I slept through the night - first time for weeks.

I’ve only taken 3 tablets so can’t see that it would work so soon? I was so tired maybe my body just needed to sleep.

I've been taking Kliogest for over seven years. It's been great, although I did have some weight gain (boobs-not a good thing). It has minimised hot flushes and mood swings enabling me to live a 'normal' life. There are HPs who sometimes comment about not taking it for too long, but I'm really reluctant to stop in case all it has done is delay menopause and I'll still have the symptoms to go through. Thankfully my GP seems to be happy to keep prescribing and I just stay quiet and not mention about ceasing HRT.

BG2015 · 01/10/2017 09:01

I’ve read that you can take HRT indefinitely- but many GP’s seem to want to stop giving it to you after a few years.

I’m hoping that Elleste does the trick for me!

Yes. My gp has been quite supportive, said risks are no greater than taking the contraceptive pill.

BG2015, hello! I've name changed from the old Hysterectomy thread. Can I ask why you have tablets and not gel or a patch? I thought that gels/patches were the preferred route nowadays?

BG2015 · 01/10/2017 09:44

Geog - he just offered me tablets, I did discuss the patches but because of exercising (although I haven’t been to the gym for 3 weeks ) the patches don’t always stay on.

Are the tablets cheaper?

(What was your user name over on the Hysterectomy thread?)

I was hysterectomyhysteria (waves).
I'm not sure if the tablets are cheaper. I have the gel and I swim every day and haven't found it a problem at all.
My Dr was rubbish but my surgeon said she doesn't prescribe the tablets any more as gel/ patches are thought to be safer. I honestly have no idea but I find the gel really good. My surgeon said that I was to keep using HRT until I was at least 53 (the average age for the menapause). I'm 43 now.
