Any tips for menopausal acne?

Menopausal acne is due to hormonal imbalances, it comes and goes, i had lots of spots for a couple of years between 45 and 47 then it disappeared even though i hadn't changed anything in my diet or lifestyle, (however other symptoms appeared ), my tip to you is to use tea tree oil neat on a spot to dry it, it works so quickly drying the spot, of course clean diet with good fats ie coconut oil, organic cold pressed olive oil and your 20 a day of fruit and veg ! Are you on hrt ?

Have you considered HRT?

Gingernaut · 19/09/2017 20:26

Watching with interest.

I'm stuck in some sort of premenstrual cycle even though I haven't had a period since May.

I have cystic zits around my chin, jaw and hairline and a bout of rosacea around my nose.

I look like a glue sniffer. Blush

intuition · 19/09/2017 20:43

I have been on HRT for 6 months. 3 mths of oestro/progesto patches but I bled a lot then 3mths of oestrogen gel. Just had a wk off and 7 days progest pessaries. Have had a light period and am restarting gel.

As someone else said I look like a glue sniffer and GP says it's a type of acne

Do you mean you stopped the gel while taking the progesterone pessaries? The oestrogen part of HRT is supposed to be continuous - unless you were specifically advised to stop for a week as a one-off?

I had the rash with hot itchy skin on cheeks - which came up in raised bumps, - not exactly acne as no heads. This all disappeared when I started HRT never to return (except when I stopped HRT once).

What a pity yours has not gone despite being on HRT. Maybe you are allergic to one of the ingredients if you didn't get it before?

Dorje · 24/09/2017 14:27

@intuition I'm curious as to why did you stopped taking oestrogen for the week you were on progesterone?

Youre supposed to take oestrogen continuously.

Rosacea, isn't acne as such, it's actually caused by mites crawling out of your pores and over your skin, eating flakes of skin at night. The allergic response of inflammation is a reaction to the their shit.
An insecticide gel will clear it up. It's not hormonal at all.

Hormonal acne usually is around the jawline, and around the mouth. Acnecide 5%bleach cream will clear it up. Massage the area every night when washing your face to ensure your pores are exfoliated properly.

Bad exfoliation is a factor in both Roseacea and cystic hormonal acne.

Use Clinique tonifying lotion 2/3/4 to clear skin- it has sacylic acid and witch hazel and works wonders at keeping the skin clear.

My doctor changed my hrt because my skin was flaring up (I’ve never suffered from acne before), I now have a shorter course of the progesterone as she said I was probably reacting to that.
Also benzoyl peroxide cream helped mine and my skin is clear again now.

I have just, this last month, been diagnosed with Rosacea (adult acne). Dr very kindly confirmed that it does affect women of a certain age - plus i am pre-menopause also. My face was covered in lumps/bumps, redness, it was horrendous.

i am now on antibiotics and they have all but cleared up. I will be on them for about 4-6 months, and then on antibiotic cream to help control them.

Might be worth a visit to the GP?
