Hey ladies
I am kind of asking for your thoughts/advice
I am 43...... almost 44 and I have never really had any issues with my menstrual cycle other than slight stomach cramps and sometimes a bit of backache.
However, the last year or so in the lead up to my period I feel totally drained/zapped of alllll energy/weak as a kitten. All I want to do is sleep yet no matter how much sleep I get I still feel exhausted.
My periods themselves are not heavy at all and only last 2/3 days and I take an iron supplement and multi vits and eat quite a bit of veg and red meat so I don't think that I am anaemic.
In addition to the exhaustion, my Boobs are SO painful that I can barely wear a bra.
And then there are the horrendous mood swings. I go from wanting to murder someone to bawling my eyes out.
I then have a bad stomach when my period actually appears and the Boobs are not as painful. I have never really suffered from PMT.
These symptoms now are a lot worse than anything I went through in my teens, 20's and 30's!
A couple of people have mentioned that I could be pre-menopausal. Do you think that this could be the case?
I am wondering if I should go to docs and get a blood test?
I am up to date with smears etc. I don't take any meds and I don't use any contraception.

I also tend to have a blinding headache but this doesn't happen every month. Though I don't suffer with headaches at all generally only just before period is due so it must be related.

You don't need a blood test for menopause unless likely to go through menopause aged under 40 or sometimes under 45, or if you don't have a uterus so don't have a cycle. If your periods are still regular or the cycle is shortening, you are at the last stage before peri-menopausal transition - although your hormones will be beginning to change. PMS often worsens in the years leading up to peri-menopause when cycles begin to become variable as ovaries begin to pack up and ovulation does not happen every month - and the hormonal surges and crashes begin to become apparent (hence the mood swings and headaches)
Some women go on the pill at this point - to even out the mood swings. If you don;t want to do this - when your cycle become irregular and if you start to get flushes and sweats then HRT is an option. If you are likely to go through menopause before the average age of menopause of 52 then HRT is advised anyway - but it is impossible to tell yet if your periods are still regular.
