Are these Peri symptoms? What would you do?

Hi all
I follow the threads on here and find them really useful so I have a question.

I'm 41, both mother and sister through menopause by 45. I've had the following cycle of symptoms for nearly two years:

About 10 days before I'm due on: sore boobs particularly one, palpitations, nausea, headache but all on a low level so not really ill but enough to be a hindrance.

Period starts and I have two days of much heavier periods, really heavy, then 2 or 3 days of a normal period.

Ovulation time has become like a second cycle of pms symptoms for me: palpitations, headaches, sore boobs.

With all these symptoms comes rage, irritability, anxiety, emotions that are either overwhelmed with love for my family or sadness.

I've had blood tests for my hormones but nothing showing and have had many conversations with many gps but all non committal. Just my age, no HRT as too young.

So what would you do? I feel like such a burden to my wonderful hubby and kids as they are constantly on the receiving end of my emotions.

Thanks in advance

Yes, definitely could be hormone related. I had these symptoms, along with some very random ones (especially weird crawling skin and brain fog). GP said I was too young (40) and my FSH was normal. Luckily I later saw an endocrinologist who said my estrogen was all over the place and I needed HRT as my estrogen was often dipping too low for my age (HRT needed to protect heart and bones). The HRT still wasn't enough to control the estrogen fluctuations so was then moved to a low dose new contraceptive pill.
Google '34 symptoms of menopause' and check out the site Menopause Matters. Dr Annie Evans and Professor Studd's websites are helpful too.

Crawling skin and brain fog...tick!

I've seen the 34 symptoms and probably have most minus 4 or 5.

I'll check out those others thanks.

Do I push to be referred? I have an autoimmune arthritis so I can't afford to be buggering about with bones and heart disease.

You can't be 'too young' if you HAVE the symptoms!

HRT is usually given once your periods start being irregular. If you 'only' have bad PMS then it may not be the right treatment.
My 'advice' is to follow some of the good guidelines on dealing with PMS - have a look at the website of the Women's Health Concern.
HRT might be tricky for you but once you start skipping periods it may well help.

BTW Rufus Dr Annie Evans retired about 2 years ago- is her website still there? She isn't working now.

Oh i could have written this. Glad to know I can go back to the GP and speak to her about this AGAIN! She says since my dmum had her menopause at a normal age(50s) it's highly unlikely I would have it early. Confused

Sounds like it, I'm experiencing similar. Have just spent £60 on supplements that are meant to help they fucking better. If that fails I'm going to the doc, it's the rage and anger that's bothering me the most, along with brain fog (I just cannot find my words ATM). And now off to work where I'll have to plaster a fake smile on, and be nice to people .

Yes push to be referred or find a more helpful GP. I did the latter and found a brilliant GP who was able to help me. Have you read the new NICE guidelines? Go armed with that knowledge!

My periods are regular but changing in a flow sort of way.
Glad to know I'm not going mad. Feel free to message me if you ever want to chat any of you!

I came here to write more or less an identical post (though I'm 49). I had a phone appointment with my GP to ask about heavy periods and other symptoms and she couldn't get onboard with this being part of the perimenopause. She said I'm probably getting headaches from iron depletion (consequence of the crazy heavy periods) and offered to do a blood test (though I see that is contraindicated in the NICE guidelines).

I have been iron deficient for years, often severely (one test result was 19 in a range of around 60-170) and have been supplementing for months so no idea why this would suddenly result in headaches. They do sometimes come up with some odd theories.
