Anyone else feeling unbalanced (dizzy) in the perimenopause...

After lots of visits to the GP and a referel to ENT specialist to rule out inner ear problems, I have now now been prescribed Elleste Duet 2mg.
My main symptoms are:
balance issues, night sweats, no pattern to periods, anxiety, mood swings, palpitations, sore joints (especially knees) and fluid retention.
All, apart from my balance issues seem to be very much standard. I've done excessive googling on balance issues but can't seem to find much that links it to the perimenopause - I'd love to hear if anyone else has this symptom and if hrt has helped. It's very debilitating and is affecting my everyday life massively!
Just to add, I only started the hrt on Monday.

Yes I had this too and all the other symptoms you mentioned! Hrt definitely has helped with most of my symptoms- I'm on eostrogel and have a mirena fitted.

Bermie67 · 26/08/2017 13:37

That's interesting - I'm new to hrt and I'm finding the different types of medication quite overwhelming! Can I ask, did you already have the mirena fitted or did you opt for it to help with meno symptoms?
I've taken 5 tablets so far and today I feel hot and bothered and terribly touchy! I know it's early days and my gp (lovely normal, sympathetic lady) has asked to see me in a months time before she prescibes anymore.

Dizziness can be a symptom of the menopause and it can also be a symptom of anxiety which is a common symptom of the menopause if you see what I mean.

HRT usually takes a lot longer than 5 days to work. Be patient. Hang on in there!

Bermie67 · 27/08/2017 09:41

Yes you're right - I mustn't expect miracles. I think I'm more worried that taking the tablets will add to my symptoms rather than lessen them! They're seems to be a very mixed bag about the benefits of taking Elleste Duet.

An interesting well timed thread for me. I've been feeling dizzy for last few days, put it down to being congested as I have a cold. Got an appointment with Dr on Tuesday that I booked weeks ago to discuss my blood tests which have come back as "normal" but I still have loads of menopause symptoms

2 years ago When i was 48 , one of the symptoms i had was dizziness along with weird brain fuziness, i know it sounds odd & difficult to describe, but because i had other symptoms ie night sweats, low mood, some anxiety and difficulty sleeping i knew i was not going mad so i didn't panic, i just knew the dizziness was part of new symptoms you can get in peri, after about 3 months the feelings of dizziness and physical imbalance faded away and then disappeared, however the remaining symptoms stayed.

Joyful60 · 29/12/2019 19:52

Hi. Just joined and am hoping for some help or advice really. Been suffering a range of symptoms since June. I'm having regular periods but have become much heavier. Heart palpitations and skipped beats, painful headaches, feeling of panic, feel like im gojng to pass out, i have been to my doctors on several occasions and was prescribed HRT which i was on for 5 weeks, then started with awful dizziness which i am finding really hard to cope with. I went to my doctor and she asked if i felt better on HRT, i honestly didnt so i came off it 2 weeks ago. Im still having dizzy spells and also anxiety. It is really affecting my everyday life now and is really getting me down. I don't know where to turn, I don't feel like I am being listened to when I go to the doctors. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you

I felt dizzy in the month before my sweating started, but I think it was low blood pressure and was only a few months ago, FSH was 76.6 so menopausal rather than peri

Sue14100 · 03/01/2020 17:33

Hi. Thanks for the info. I've had blood tests which haven't shown anything relating to the menopause and no sweats as yet. I have had my blood pressure checked twice in the last month, all ok. Are you taking HRT? Thanks

aquashiv · 18/01/2020 13:32

I've just recently started HRT.
The dizziness aching limbs and sickness is still there lack of energy and weight gain.
The extreme anxiety insomnia and night sweats have improved.
My GP said its normal and go to bed earlier. 🤔

Mammymoo2021 · 09/09/2022 19:26

Can I ask did you ever find a resolution or answer to how you felt? U have described perfectly how I'm feeling

pinkrabbits39 · 25/10/2022 12:12

Have a look into PPPD
this certainly fitted a lot of my symptoms

Fififizz · 25/10/2022 12:23

Dizziness when I climb on a chair especially when I tip my head back and balance issues affect me too. I did read it was a menopause symptom and some explanation to do with the inner ear but I can’t find the link. Also, emotionally if I’m having a wobble that seems to affect me physically too with feeling more unbalanced. I’m just trying to do more balance exercise as having good balance is a habit too. Our balance sadly can be negatively affected as we age so it’s important to try retain it.

Titsflyingsouth · 25/10/2022 12:44

Yep. Had a vertigo type dizziness (as opposed to low blood pressure dizziness which feels very different.) On HRT which has helped massively. Occasionally have an odd moment but it passes. Perimenopause does something weird to the inner ear - my tinnitus has ramped up massively in past few years....

Mj83 · 27/10/2022 10:11

Hi, how long has your dizziness lasted? I'm 39 and have had dizziness almost all day everyday for 1 year. Sometimes with migraine and aura. Nausea comes and goes. It has really affected my life as i can't walk far without feeling faint or wobbly. Been to Neurologist and ENT for various tests and told vestibular migraine but also have all symptoms of Perimenopause although I get regular period, they have started to get lighter and shorter. I've been told by GP it might be a good time to start HRT to see if it helps. My hormone blood test were in normal range but was told it depends on the day and time of the test. I had a unilateral oophorectomy a year ago so not sure if this bought things on early. I ache in my hips and legs more too. Any information would be hugely appreciated.

www.newsonhealth.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/High-blood-pressure-1.pdf This suggests you would be fine to take HRT with high blood pressure - in fact it may even reduce it. Maybe a word withyour GP to try it - and see if it makes it worse/better/stays the same. Unless it makes your BP worse, but it makes your symptoms better - you surely would be better off on it?

Saza06 · 28/10/2022 23:02

Thank you for that. My GP is all abt anxiety nothing else to be honest. I will get appointment on Monday and say abt it.
Thank you hope your ok

Hey guys
Just reopening this back up to see if you found any relief or help from a specific hrt?
I'm 44 this year, mine started a year ago..
Actually started from travel and got diagnosed with Mdds But I always find i feel worse around pmt/period and wandered from what I've read if all this started because of peri..
This weird off balance feeling that I carry with me day to day & worse days than others
I had all the tests done for dizzy but everything came bk normal although so did my hormones but doctor said hard to tell

pinkrabbits39 · 18/05/2025 12:18

Mine resolved thank god. I’m grateful everday it did as it was debilitating - mine was a combination of mag glycinate, vitamin d spray and HRT - can’t tell you specifically which cured me, im scared to mess with what’s working so just keep taking it

Cbpoppy · 18/05/2025 15:25

Aww thanks for your reply @pinkrabbits39

pinkrabbits39 · 18/05/2025 22:10
