Referral to specialist menopause clinic

Has anyone got a referral to their GP to a specialist menopause clinic? What would the criteria be, just out of interest?

There are very few around- clinics.
I think the criteria would be a complex hormone history and gynae issues.

NHS meno clinics are not always all they are cracked up to be. A poster on another meno forum had a devil of a job getting HRT after she was 60 yet most private consultants don't bat an eyelid .

Thanks! I thought that might be the case.

I went for suspected early meno and it was crap.

It might still be worth getting a referral if your GP isn't playing ball re HRT but find out your nearest one and investigate their reputation! Many women have been helped by them Smile

I referred myself after getting details from a friend. The doctor I saw did a special clinic one day a week and her diary was booked up for weeks in advance.
I had tried a couple of HRT which didn't suit me but the doc at the clinic had me complete questionnaires and then sat down and discussed the best type for me. She also revealed that the 2 types of HRT prescribed by my GP were essentially the same so no wonder I didn't feel any different Confused
She gave me more time than my GP could.

Thanks, seems a mixed bag. Fingers crossed my GP seems relatively on the ball but not with all things - she said the tablets and patches were no different in terms of DVT (which seems contrary to what I've read). Anyway she prescribed HRT so really I can't complain!

That's a bit alarming really that she doesn't know the difference. It's one of the basics about HRT; transdermal does not increase the woman's baseline risk of blood clots. All in the NICE guidelines but one of the most basic points any GP ought to know.

Hope you get on ok anyway.
