Tiredness in waves

Anyone else have this? Fine one minute then overwhelmed by tiredness the next!

tasmaniandevilchaser · 25/08/2017 13:20

Yes! The only comparison for me is pg tiredness. It seems to have improved for me since I started HRT

PGTip · 25/08/2017 15:09

I never had it when pg thankfully. It's bloody awful! I'm only 44 (far too young in my eyes).
There are a couple of things lately that are making me wonder if I could be peri. Wish they could just turn the bloody (pun intended) taps off

PGTip - if you've started missing periods and your cycle is getting longer or very variable from one month to the next then that is a sure sign you are peri...tiredness at particular points in your cycle are defo hormonal (especially in second half and towards the end of the cycle and early part of bleed) but otherwise can be things like iron deficiency or thyroid problems.

ladybird69 · 31/08/2017 01:22

Yes PG and tasmanian has described it exactly right! Whenever I was pregnant I knew before test as I felt tired to my bones and that's how I feel now. I haven't had a period for 5 years yet Drs say I'm not even peri menopausal but still no periodsbut dr says it could be result of a traumatic experience that I experienced at the time. But it doesn't help now, I literally cry when I have to get out of bed and somedays I stay in bed because I haven't got that one ounce of strength to leave it. I feel like an old woman when I'm only in my forties. It's so frustrating isn't it when you see friends living life to the full and making so many plans when all I want to do is sleep, i'll feel better after a sleep I keep lying to myself.
Anyone got a magic wand for us cause it's bloody miserable eh. Flowers for us all
Sorry bout essay

I've hit the menopause big time, it's awful, my bones ache , I have no energy at all and the night sweats are unbearable. I'm hopefully going going to start HRT soon , I so hope it helps.

PollyPerky · 31/08/2017 07:02

ladybird

You have had no period for 5 years yet your GP fobs you off with it being the result of a traumatic experience? Bollocks. Have they done blood tests for menopause?

If you are in your 40s and have had no period for 5 years yes, of course you are menopausal and your GPs are talking rubbish and their care is negligent. The accepted treatment - and necessary treatment- is HRT for anyone who has menopause before (roughly) 47 because it's called a premature menopause before this age. You need HRT to protect your bones against osteoporosis and heart disease.

See another GP and get sorted! There is no need to put up with this.

TroysMammy · 31/08/2017 07:13

I have no less than 7 1/2 hours sleep at night but always wake up thinking about an afternoon nap when I finish work.

Hueandcry · 31/08/2017 20:28

I have been experiencing this for the last few weeks. I'm completely exhausted despite sleeping not too badly. Funnily enough it reminded me of the early stages of pregnancy too. I'm on HRT. Wondering if I should go back & see my GP

ladybird69 · 01/09/2017 00:19

Thanks polly I've had test last year and the results said that I wasn't peri menopausal! I have made an appt for the Drs for next week and will really push it. I asked for a female dr so hopefully she will be more understanding. I can't be ovulating otherwise I'd be having periods eh? The few years prior I was the total opposite and was always flooding and anemic yet I felt better then than I do now. Oh and I will ask for blood tests too.

PollyPerky · 01/09/2017 07:28

Are you in the UK?
Sorry but your 'treatment' is just ridiculous. (Not your fault.)
Not having a period for 5 years means you are at risk of osteoporosis later in life (by your 50s.) Loss of periods before 45, whether it's down to low body weight, too much exercise, (female athletes) or early menopause is a risk factor.
'Explaining' your loss of periods because of an emotional trauma simply isn't good enough! This may happen very short term- missing a few- but not for 5 years!

You need to insist on a referral to a gynaecologist. Your GP isn't up to this. Don't bank on a woman dr being better....

And if blood tests are showing 'normal' then you need further tests as to why your periods have stopped- that should include a pelvic scan to look at your ovarian function etc.

See a specialist. Pay if you have to!

ladybird69 · 02/09/2017 00:09

Yes polly in the U.K. I saw a consultant about heavy periods 12 years ago and was tested for pcos, endometriosis and fibroids. I had scans blood tests and examinations and Nothing was found. I came away with a prescription for the mini pill that this top consultant prescribed yet I'm a large lady and even I know risks of obese ladies taking the pill.
Hmmm unfortunately you're right about lady Drs but my surgery is quite large so I've got a few I can try if I don't get any answers.
Thanks polly I've made a few notes which I'll use when I see the dr.

PollyPerky · 02/09/2017 08:44

Just picking up on your latest post..

you say you are a 'large lady'.
Has it occurred to you that being overweight (not sure what 'large' means) could account for your tiredness? Carrying a few stones around all the time is the same as a normal weight person carrying heavy suitcases 24/7.

Also, fat cells produce estrogen so you could have gone through the menopause but your estrogen levels are those of a woman who is slim but hasn't gone through meno.

If you need to lose weight then do it! Not having a go but if you are eating lots of sugar or refined carbs this could explain the fatigue crashes.

ladybird69 · 07/09/2017 21:57

No polly I've been this weight for years and years and always had loads of energy and always running around. I have to lose weight but I don't eat a lot already just small ready meal with portion of frozen veg for dinner and sugar free squash to drink! I don't have much of an appetite. People wouldn't believe it tho. That's interesting about the fat cells producing estrogen. Are you a nurse or a dr polly? You sound very informed.

LuluandtheNightshade · 08/09/2017 13:25

ladybird69 - do you still take the mini pill? You should also have thyroid function tests as part of your blood tests - in view of your tiredness you should have the whole lot - full blood count, vits, thyroid, liver function, iron, sex hormones etc.
As Pollyperky says - if you've gone through menopause you should have been given HRT a long time ago - but still not too late. I would be asking for the results of any blood tests you've had. I can now see all mine online - maybe you can - if not ask for a print-out

ladybird69 · 09/09/2017 00:49

Hi lulu I never filled the mini pill script as it's a risk for strokes in over weight women. I just managed the awful flooding etc with tablets to ease pain and bleeding Transemic acid(spelling).
I've asked for full blood test from dr that I had taken today and will get results next week but Drs appt at the end of the month! But I will know some things to ask her thanks to polly. That's interesting about being able to see the results of blood test are you in UK?

bibbertybobbityboo · 09/09/2017 01:14

Hi Ladybird, if you are not eating much and not losing weight and having tiredness in waves I strongly recommend you ask for a thyroid function test, could easily be the reason for both

PollyPerky · 09/09/2017 09:11

I don't eat a lot already just small ready meal with portion of frozen veg for dinner and sugar free squash to drink!

That is all you eat in a day? One meal and a drink of squash? No breakfast? No lunch? No snacks? or do you mean your main meal of the day is one small ready meal?

If this is all you eat then it's quite likely you are deficient in essential minerals and vitamins, including calcium for your bones.
