Peri menopause making me so angry!

I'm just so angry. About everything. All the time. I'm ready to scream at the drop of a hat and feel stressed out - as I imagine are my poor family. Will HRT help? Still having regular periods but they are getting much heavier and longer (10 days at a time now). I'm seeing dr next week. Will she just laugh at me for asking? I'm 47 and haven't always been like this but for about 3 weeks a month, I'm ready to lose the plot!!

Yes. It will help. I eventually went to my GP for help and more or less demanded that I was put on HRT when I was about 46 (I think), though in retrospect I think my hormone levels had been dropping for a few years before that (benefit of hindsight and all of that).

I was in a constant state of RAGE until I went on HRT. Honestly, I couldn't have given any of my family a script to follow that wouldn't have made me just want to bellow with anger and frustration, no matter what. I was also having periods still, though not quite as regular as clockwork as before.

Would also recommend that you get your vitamin D levels checked out. I went on HRT and also I upped my own bit D intake (by spray, great stuff), and I felt more or less human again within weeks. Plus the sleeping issues, memory, aching joints etc. All much improved (though the memory not as much as I would like...).

Go to your GP, go armed with your symptoms, get your bloods done by all means, but if possible, see if you can come away from your appt with a prescription (oestrogen gel or patch + progesterone if you do not have a mirena coil) and a referral to your local menopause clinic. Good luck!

I'm interested in the Vitamin D spray that you're using orangina. What make is it? My joints have been achy on and off for some time.

Thanks @orangina that's really helpful and good to know it's not just me. I feel as if they will fob me off as still having regular-ish periods but I've got the joint pain and the night sweats too! Have ordered the vitamin D spray from Amazon and am trying to reduce sugar in my diet (but sometimes chocolate feels like my only friend - alcohol makes me sweat more) but today I've almost got over it (just like that) and am not nearly as ready to kill!!

The Vitamin D spray that I use is DLux, available in various doses but I go for a 3000 dose in the winter. I buy it from Amazon here.

I cannot deal with any alcohol any more, I sleep v badly and the internal boiler goes on overdrive and wakes me up in a muck sweat. Then I spend at least a day eating my body weight in carbs, which doesn't help the waistline.

I am also taking Magnesium when I remember, which helps with the restless legs etc. Worth getting your bone density checked to see if you need oestrogen for that reason as well. Mine was low and I have gone on calcium as well.

Good luck! It can be hellish, but it didn't take long for me to feel (relatively) normal once more.

Apparently, it might be the drop in hormones.

Oxytocin. We need the 'cuddle' hormone to rub the hard edges off our anger.

Lack of it means we're less likely to tolerate all the little irritations that allow us to go through life without slapping twats who piss us off.

hidinginthegarden · 25/08/2017 19:37

Oxytocin?! Don't you get that giving birth or having sex?! Not sure that either feels like an option - thankfully on the giving birth front - and mainly cos DH gets the worst of my moods when it affects me!!
