Hot flush "auras"

Does this happen to anyone else?

I am getting lots of hot flushes at the moment (and fecking night sweats) - and they are always preceded by a strange, fleeting sensation of annoyance/irritation. That's the best way I can describe it.

Whatever I am doing, I'll suddenly feel irritated for no apparent reason and then, whoosh, a sweaty hot flush.

Just wondering if this happens to anyone else?

Also, any tips for coping with the night sweats? I am only managing a few hours sleep at a time because they keep waking me up. Sleeping with a fan on isn't helping.

Hey glad I've found you lot.

I was on Prempak mainly for mood swings and irritability. Then my personal life changed (easy guess) and I wondered if my circumstances had made me angry or my hormones so stopped HRT (also had run out, was busy at work and couldn't get GP app!).

However although I don't have mood problems I do have fatigue and sweats and gaining so much fat around the middle (gah it's horrendous) that thinking of going back on so this thread very helpful.

I am 67 and still get this sometimes in the middle of the night. Feeling of fear and unease, then a hot flush. All other symptoms have gone after a ten year menopause. I was one of the unlucky ones, only "allowed" three years HRT after the scare. I still feel angry about it.
I now have topical oestrogen for VA but apart from that and the odd nightime hot flush I am fine and feel ten years younger and loads fitter than I did during the menopause.

I'm glad I found you lot, too. Menopause is something that women in general avoid talking about. My friends and I moaned and grumbled about periods, then TTC, then pregnancy & childbirth - oh yes, those last two are the main topics of conversation at any female gathering, over & over. But who chats about menopause? No one.

Indeed. And the "exercise and eat healthy foods" message gives me the rage. I always have done. I still had a dreadful menopause.
I sailed through pregnancy and childbirth. I didn't suggest that friends who had complications just weren't trying hard enough.
All part of society's negative attitudes to older women I think.

+1 to this. I am a life long fit person, marathon running fit, and I have a good diet. It hasn't stopped menopause hitting me like a sledgehammer, and making me less able, through the exhaustion, panics, and aching joints, to maintain my fitness. I'm taking HRT to enable me to do what I've always done.

I do wonder if that advice is dished out by people who weren't previously exercising or eating well, hit menopause, cleaned up their diet and exercise act, and felt better. That's fantastic for them - but it's not necessarily particularly helpful advice for everyone.

I think I might have a higher threshold for what I think is an acceptable loss of function - I did wonder if it's because I'm only early 40s, so on the young side for this. But then I think, no, why should older women accept any decline in their standard of living, why are we pushing the message that it's OK to accept aching joints, flushes, tiredness etc - why don't we ask for more?

Sorry, OP, I've derailed a bit Blush
