Post menopausal bleeding (?TMI)

I have been perimenopausal for several years and had a mirena coil for heavy bleeding four years ago. I carried on having periods/irregular bleeding for three years and stopped bleeding a year ago.
I started bleeding again three weeks ago with a lot of pain and it is still going on. Saw my GP yesterday who said I have to be seem urgently by the gynaecologists because it is of concern - along with a recent change in bowel habits and some loss of weight.
I am worried because my symptoms are the same as my elderly neighbour who at the age of 80 started bleeding and later died of ovarian cancer and my grandma died of uterine cancer too.
I am just hoping that all it is is a final period before being fully post menopausal but my GP didn't seem convinced. Has anyone had similar experiences?

Hope everything will be okay. No experience or advice to offer you but I am sure someone willFlowers

I don't understand this.
Do you have a Mirena in place now , or not???

If you still have a Mirena, no one can know if you are post menopause or not. Your GP is incorrect to say you are post meno. The only way to be sure is to have the Mirena removed and see how long if at all you go without a period.
As you must know, the Mirena stops periods in some women.

If you have one in place now and it is over 4 yrs old the hormones in it will be low or have run out- it is licensed for 4 years. So what you are having now could be a natural period, not controlled by the Mirena. The gap with your periods before now could be due to the Mirena doing its job but it's now run out of hormones.

What do you think?

(I still think you should have pelvic scan, as your GP says, but they don't seem to be considering all the possibilities for the bleed.)

I still have the Mirena but this one is only two years old so the hormones should still be released. He is concerned because, as you say, most women stop bleeding, as I had, but it has started again and the Mirena is still in place.
They may remove the Mirena because I did have endometritis with the first one, which is why it was replaced.
I think they'll probably want to do a hysterectomy because I have a long hostory of gynae problems and refused last time. The pain with this is awful though.
Thanks both for your thoughts and advice.

I'm confused' You seem to say the coil 'gave you' endometriosis?
Or am I reading this wrongly :)
I'm sure that when you get your gynae appt and they do a scan you will be reassured. Your GPs on the ball and being cautious, so I'd not get too worried- see what happens.

I had endometritis which is a different condition to endometrosis. Endometritis is inflammation of the endometrium and they didn't say the Mirena caused it, but to help the uterus settle it was removed and then replaced several months later.
I barely bled during those months so I'm guessing I was close to menopause anyway (aged 52).
I have my appointment on the 31st

Thanks for your good wishes. I think it'll be fine but am pretty sure they'll offer a hysterectomy again. Not sure about that but the pain has been pretty bad this time again.

I saw the gynaecological oncologist on Monday. The scan showed significant adenomyosis and a functional cyst on my right ovary which means that I have ovulated recently so the bleed was menstruation. He took an endometrial biopsy and although it was OK at the time the amount of pain in the following three days was tremendous. The pain is due to the adenomyosis.
I have finally opted for a hysterectomy as I am very tired of the dragging pains, cramping, unpredictable bleeding and bloating. Can't wait for it to be over now!
The biopsy will be fine I am certain but the oncologist does not do hysterectomies so I have had to be referred to the gynaecologist separately.
