I have just had my coil removed having mistakenly been insitu for 10 years plus !! and I suspect due to having pcos probably why I haven't fallen pregnant accidental I am 51 and I was told the mirena would now probably take me through menopause can I ask has anyone used it for this purpose My choice to have it put in was for contraceptive reasons but having had flushes over the last few years I am keen to find out how it has worked for others I am also very determined to keep my weight down as I know it exacerbates the pcos symptoms Any thoughts welcome

Do you mean you are thinking of having a new one or you already have a new one in now?

On its own, the Mirena won't do anything for menopause, except prevent periods if they tend to be heavy. As you know, the Mirena releases a synthetic progestogen. It's loss of oestrogen that causes flushes and all other meno symptoms.

I think what you have been told is that if you have another Mirena now, you can be almost 100% sure you will not have any more periods because by the time it needs replacing (in 4 years) you'd be post menopause.

But on its own it won't help meno symptoms.

One of the best ways to get rid of your meno flushes etc is to use a separate estrogen (patch or gel) with the Mirena. That way you will get the benefits of the Mirena but also get rid of the other stuff!
