Crusty / leaky nipples ?

I had the super-sore nipples about six months ago, now I seem to have leaky / crusty nipples (both sides). A bit of googling tells me this is probably duct ecstasia and can happen in peri. But how come nobody mentions this - is it rare, or just too icky to discuss? Smile

I think peri has hit me with a vengeance over the last couple of weeks. Crusty nipples, itchy foof, acne, occasional night sweats, and 5 days late for AF.

You need to get those nipples checked, I have had ductal ectasia but apart from when I got mastitis I haven't had any nipple discharge with it.
You can get the doctor to prescribe Vagifem or Ovestin for the itchy bits if it is dryness starting.....do not leave it, treatment is safe and will get worse if left.

As above.

Anything odd with nipples should be checked out asap- don't self diagnose.

It's not a 'peri' sign but there could be numerous reasons, some nothing, some serious.

I was taking my information from the NHS website: www.nhs.uk/conditions/nipple-discharge/Pages/Introduction.aspx

Duct ectasia tends to affect women approaching the menopause. As the breasts age, the milk ducts behind the nipple get shorter and wider, and may produce a discharge. This is a normal, age-related change and nothing to worry about.

I consider myself pretty clued up on meno stuff and have never ever heard of this.

You will also find stuff online saying any discharge from a nipple should mean a trip to the GP pronto.

The condition you mention should be one diagnosis AFTER anything else has been excluded.

Yep, any nipple discharge, go to the GP.
