Is it too early? Is this something else?

I'm 38, 39 soon. I've had lots of health issues this year. I've put a list together to see if it makes sense and I've ended up here. If it's not, please tell me.

Here goes,

Always been hormonal with periods. Last 12 months have been dreadful.
Tried to come off the pill (Yasmin), blood poured out of me for days. Had to call in sick for work it was so bad. Now back on it as it makes it more manageable. Diagnosed with endo at 23 but it's been ok since the kids came along and I've been on Yasmin.

Every time I have a period I'm in bed for at least 2 days with a migraine and flu like symptoms. No medication touches it. It's very demoralising. It's ruined holidays and weekends.

Tired all the time.

Alcohol - can't touch the stuff. Leaves me broken for more than a day at a time.

Gaining weight massively. PT 3 times a week and gym loads. Still gaining weight. More than a stone in the past 12 months.

Joints ache, back is permanently aching at the bottom. Hands are sore.

I feel flat constantly, almost at the stage of asking GP for anti depressants.

Sex life. It's always been great fun but I'm so tired and flat I barely make it past 9pm of an evening.

My chest constantly kills me, I've been blaming badly fitting bras.

I'm not pregnant, I've checked as a precaution and it's not possible.

Is it too early? Am I adding 2+2 and getting 17?

My mum was early so not sure if it runs in the family.

Yes it's too early but obviously some women have an early menopause

Nobody can really advise. You need to see your GP and maybe have blood tests as a starting point

Thanks Batfaced. I'm trying not to waste my GPs time. It's a really busy surgery. Appointments are quick and hard to come by.

I'm trying to figure out what's important and related. If only tests can tell then that's ok Flowers

Some of these symptoms can be underactive thyroid? Maybe get it checked?

PollyPerky · 02/07/2017 07:51

It's hard t o say because your symptoms could be 'just' heavy periods and bad PMS.

Menopause age does tend to be hereditary so you could be same as your mum.

Not wanting to diminish your symptoms, but sometimes after being on the Pill, it's easy to forget what a normal period is like in terms of blood loss. It can be normal to bleed heavily for a couple of days or more.

what do you mean about your chest? Are your breasts sore?

The weight could be down to being peri meno but it can also be 'just' middle aged spread. It's not inevitable but most of us on reaching 40-ish and over can't get away with eating the same size portions no matter how much we exercise!

You need to see your GP for some blood tests. Make sure they are done at the right time of the month. If you are using the Pill they will not be an accurate guide to your hormones- are you still on Yasmin and bleeding /in bed or not?

Sounds like you have some underactive thyroid symptoms, heavy periods, weight gain, flat mood, joint pain, back ache and sore hands. Ask your Gp to check your thyroid. I hope you feel better soon.

Still on Yasmin, it was too much to have a normal period on top of the 2 day migraine.

My boobs ache is the simplest way of putting it.

Thank you sounds like I need to see the GP for tests
