Test for perimenopause

Hi, I think I might be in the perimenopause. For few months, my periods have been irregular and lighter; I have really bad insomnia and I've gained weight. I'm 41. I really want to know if I am in the perimenopause and wondered if there was a test to confirm this?

I wish I knew how old my mum was when she went through the menopause, but she died some time ago and she also had a hysterectomy so this would have presumably lead to an early menopause anyway. I understand that my nan however (who has also died) went through the menopause around 43.

I luckily had a child two years ago and I know that my chance of another child is almost non-existent as I am single and had to have IVF to have my daughter, however I feel very sad at the thought of starting the menopause and knowing that there is absolutely no possibility of having another child. I feel that if I know if the menopause is round the corner, I can at least mentally prepare for it. Can anyone advise me? Thank you.

Hi I am no expert but I would contact your GP I believe they can tell al lot from blood tests including measuring hormones that might indicate whether or not you are perimenopausal or menopausal. I am nearly 52 and have been at this in between stage for the last two years.
Take care

Wilkos do a test,it's £3. Just like a pregnancy test.

I agree with Brighteyes.i had a test when I thought I must have been perimenopausal, but wasn't then another one a couple of years later and I was. Personally I would go to GP rather than use Willko test in the first instance to discuss your symptoms and to rule out any other causes.

Thank you all for your replies. I wasn't aware Wilkos did a menopause test. I would prefer to go through my GP though. The only other possible explanation for my symptoms might be the fact I have increased my dose of the antidepressant Citalopram from 20mg to 40mg, a few months ago. I think though that it probably is more likely to be the perimenopause.

To be fair seriously go to your GP list all your symptoms and ask for blood tests. It really could be anything. Mine has boggles on for ages I went from regular 30/31 day cycles to no period for 4-7 months. I didn't go to GP for that specifically but during routine bloods hospital Dr mentions it.

I just want it finished with now but expect I will be sad when it is priperly over as the end of an era.

Take care 💐💐
