Aching

Hi
I'm 52 and had no periods since April 2016 ....
Around this time I started experiencing aching legs which feels like a toothache , tendinitis and stiff joints making walking from sitting very hard.

The GP has sent me for lots of tests , bloods, circulation, X-rays, muscular skeletal , physio , acupuncture and I have paid for massages and shoe insoles from a podiatrist.

The muscular skeletal people say all this is due to the menopause and just to take with co codamol or Tramadol when particularly bad.

Anybody else experienced anything similar ??

Yes me too. I'm just about to commence taking magnesium to see if that helps at all.

Hellothereitsme · 12/06/2017 22:40

HRT helped my aching joints. I'm back to normal now.

I don't think a diet of strong painkillers is the way to treat what is caused by estrogen loss. Try HRT unless you have medical risk factors that prevent use?

Jultay · 13/06/2017 11:57

I agree PollyPerkin however I do have high BP and am worried about the risks with HRT tbh ... I only take painkillers when desperate ... have you seen an improvement also with HRT x

Yes, all over, all the time.

PollyPerky · 13/06/2017 12:48

HRT does not affect blood pressure. Have a read around about it and put your mind at rest. As long as you use transdermal HRT then you have no added risk.

If you have high BP it should be treated with medication, exercise and diet. (and weight loss if it applies.)

Thank you x

Yes, so much so that I can barely walk at times

ninnando · 14/06/2017 19:43

Me too, but what can you take other than HRT? I can't take if after having breast cancer.

PollyPerky · 14/06/2017 20:19

ninnando
I am sorry about your BC. It's worth mentioning that HRT after BC is not a complete no-no.
This is something that is discussed on a case by case basis, so unless you have asked your oncologist and maybe asked another one too, maybe do that?
My consultant gynae is treating women with women who have had HRT- some types are considered safer than others.

PollyPerky · 14/06/2017 20:19

'women with women' (?) you know what I mean!

Hello, I had this terribly when I first went through menopause. It lasted about two years. My whole body seemed to ache sometimes, but particularly my elbows, soles of feet and legs. I have never taken HRT but it did just go of its own accord. I think it's because of the lack of estrogen which your body eventually gets used to.
