Can I be peri or menopausal with reasonably regular periods?

I'm very confused so hope someone can clarify please. I have regular periods but they are very heavy so I'm taking tranexamic acid. I've just started having night sweats. The worst thing is the terrible mood swings and crying two weeks before I'm due. Zero libido, anxiety, constipated, and constantly exhausted.

I'm eating a healthy diet and have been on anti depressants for years. Would the doctor be able to help me in any way? Thanks everyone.

Peri meno can last for years. A change in periods is usually a sign bit they can still be regular.
Has anyone told you that ADs are often the cause of no libido? Have you been offered anything else for depression- ie counselling or CBT?

The only thing your dr could do is take you off ADs and allow you to try HRT for your peri symptoms. It depends if you had a diagnosis of clinical depression before your peri symptoms started or not. ADs are not recommended for peri symptoms unless the depression has nothing to do with falling hormones.

Thanks. Yes I know Ads are a cause of loss of libido. I don't feel I can come off ADs because I just crash without them. Can I not take HRT while taking ADs?

Have you tried other things apart from ADs? eg exercise, talking therapies, etc to see what's the underlying reason for the depression? is it something going on in your life, ie reactive depression?

Yes, you can take both.

Polly, I had severe postnatal depression many years ago and milder one on birth of 2nd dc. I've never been the same since and have resigned myself to being on ADs. Some of it is reactive now I think. Seem to be going through a bit of mid life stuff. Looking back on life and feeling a failure. Jealous of how my friends live with so much more money and bigger houses etc. Stupid I know but hard to stop.

If you could afford it, maybe invest in some counselling or CBT? ADs take the edge of symptoms but don't really tackle the underlying causes if it's a reaction to life events.
