Kliovance and nuvelle continuous

Hello, thank you for letting me join...

I'm 52 (nearly 53) and been on hrt for less that 2 years. I started on kliovance then about 6 months ago moved to kliofem cos it was a higher dosage. Kliofem was discontinued and I was put on elleste duet which gave me a monthly so I came off them at my request about 3/4 weeks ago but, doc didn't give me any other hrt but sent me for blood test for various things but there was a CA-125 test and protein test which were normal. Doc wants me to go for scan...this is because I had a monthly which is annoying as it states that you will have a monthly.

Anyway, does anyone know what hrt isn't discontinued and is combined but no monthly?

well for a start your GP is wrong sending you for a scan when you were taking a sequential type of HRT which is supposed to give a bleed! What on earth are they thinking about??! I think you had better kindly educate them and get them to at least read the leaflet in the packet FGS!

There are a few types of conti HRT (the sort that doesn't cause a monthly bleed.) There are also patches and if you think you might stay on HRT long term, patches are worth thinking about as they are much safer re. blood clots (they don't add to your own risk whereas pills do. )

You can also use Oestrogen gel and a separate daily progestogen (such as Norethisterone or Utrogestan 100mgs) which is the same thing but with 2 separate items rather than a pill containing both.

Thanks pollyperky...coming off hrt is now taking its toll. I'm having hot flushes again tho mainly at night and they are bad. I feel totally lost. When I saw the doc she did make a comment about not knowing the best hrt to prescribe as many are discontinued. Really frustrating. I'm hoping to get appointment with her tomorrow and was hoping to go with info but nowhere on the net that Iv looked states if something is discontinued.

I feel tablets are better for me and would even go back to first hrt tablets but feel they're likely to be discontinued.

It sounds as if your Gp prescribed the wrong type of Elleste Duet. There are sequi and conti types.

Look at the link- the conti type is available. It doesn't give a bleed. If you were given this and had a bleed, it's likely to be a hiccup between swapping brands.

Were you given the sequi or the continuous type? If it was sequi it would give you a bleed. Do you have the actual packet to check?

You don't have to agree to a scan if the HRT was designed to be a one that gives a bleed. I think you should query this and not be pushed about if she's wrong.

The other thing is, if you had a gap between stopping one type and starting another, it could have been a natural period.

Sorry- but this doesn't make sense (without knowing all the details. )
GPs ought not to waste NHS resources and worry women if the HRT is designed to give a bleed.

I am 52, 53 on Sunday. I have an underactive thyroid which I take levothyroxine 75mg. I started hrt less than 2 years ago. First hrt was kliovance 1mg/0.5mg. This was great, stopped hot flushes and panic attacks. I then started to feel hot in the face during day and sweaty. Sweated during the night and sweated badly under arms during day, especially right under arm. Went back to docs and was put on kliofem 2mg/1mg. Didn't really get into this to notice anything that different to kliovance as when I went to collect my next prescription for it at the chemist, I'd been given elleste duet. It was Xmas and by the time I'd noticed, chemist and docs were closed so I checked a bit on the net and had same ingredients so just took it. Didn't no about monthly tho until I had one. I was told the kliofem was discontinued hence different hrt...would have been good to of been told before hand. On my second strip of 28 pills of elleste duet I actually felt really crappy so I went back to docs to say I can't take them anymore as I dont want to have a monthly and I am aching etc. She then sent me for a blood test but in the mean time no hrt. Everything came back ok except I was deficient in vitamin D. My full blood count also was fine. In meantime she made an appointment for scan but I cancelled. I was at docs yesterday and she said she would speak to specialist, she rang me this morning and specialalist has said due to my age, my symptoms and the bleeding I must have a scan and he recommends not giving me hrt until I do so.
I said to my doc surely it's up to me whether I have a scan or not. She said 're hrt it is up to the prescribed.

Elleste Duet comes in two types. Elleste Duet Conti and Elleste Duet.

If yours was not Conti (continuous - 2 hormones in each tablet) you would have a bleed.

If your GP doesn't know this and has not communicated this to the specialist, you need to raise it with her.

It's not complicated but she doesn't seem to understand.

It was elleste duet...not cont. I explained to doctor and even repeated myself this morning but she said she understands what I've said but I still need a scan cos I've bled. It is a mine field 're the various types of hrt and I get that even doctors might struggle with it but she has spoken to specialist and she's doing what he has recommended.

I think you need to go and see her, take the print off from the product and explain. She's being thick. Just really silly that she is wasting your time and the NHS by this. It's hardly rocket science- there are 2 main types of HRT- conti which is no bleed and sequi which is not. if she doesn't understand this she ought not to be practising. I suspect she has told the specialist the wrong information as well.

The tablets taken in the first 16 days of each Elleste duet cycle contain only estradiol. The tablets taken in the next 12 days of each cycle contain both estradiol and norethisterone. Doctor not moving on her decision. She won't prescribe hrt until I've been for a scan.

So she puts you on a type of HRT that gives a monthly bleed, then sends you for a scan when you bleed?
Has she actually listened?
I hope the consultant or whoever raps her knuckles for a sheer waste of NHS time.

Need help, I'm going through perimenopause and taking estrogen patches with progesterone for 10 days. However my depression and anxiety is persistent for 3 out of 4 mg weeks. Are pills better option of hrt?

No personal experience of HRT in any form but I do have a friend who has been on kilovance for years with no problems whatsoever, she is 69 now and her GP is happy for her to stay on it as long as she wants with regular bp checks and mammograms.
