Micronised Progesterone

Bluebell66 · 05/12/2016 10:26

I have read that micronised progesterone is safer in terms of breast cancer risk. Does anyone know if this is accurate and if so, what is micronised progesterone available as in this country and can it be taken cyclically? I am currently on continuous oestrogen with Provera for 14 days every three months. What should I ask the GP for?

TIA

Hi Bluebell,
Ustrogestan is a micronised progesterone. My regime is estragel and Day 1 to 7 on Ustrogestan.
I was swapped to Provera because I did not bleed . However I read up about the risks of cancer with synthetic progesterone so I swapped back onto Utrogestan without asking the consultant (I had some Utrogestan left overs).

Hi Lico, thank you so much for your reply. It's is so helpful hearing your experiences and I really appreciate it.

I am going to try Utrogestan again when my next course of progesterone is due, which is 30th December. Because I couldn't tolerate it orally, Polly suggested trying it vaginally to lessen the side effects, so this is what I plan to do. Do you have a bleed with it at all?

On the subject of the Phenergan, I took two tablets last night with success. Although I woke up a few times, I stayed in bed and didn't get up till 5.00 am - a significant improvement on 3.00 am! I will continue for several nights and see if I can break the dreadful sleep habits I have got into for so long now.

Thank you for all your support Lico and for sharing your experiences. I really appreciate it. I have my scan booked for Friday, I am glad to be having it, but can't help being anxious, my last scan in 2014 showed some thickening of my womb lining then.

I did not get a bleed after all but Polly mentioned that many women do not get it. I just will have a scan and take it from there.
Glad the sleep is better but be careful not to use Phenergan many days, just occasionally to get some sleep. Read the leaflet. I think that we all have problems with sleep as we get older..

Slightly off topic but isn't there something like Kalms that are herbal sleep aids? Phenergan is an anti histamine isn't it?

Bluebell66 · 12/12/2016 11:22

You can get Kalms Nighttime, but I haven't found them to be any good. Yes, Phenergan is an anti-histamine.

I have ordered some Valerian to try.

Yes, it is an anti histamine.
I was advised to take them by a doctor for three nights only in emergency to catch up with my sleep. Then, stop and do something more natural . This avoids the use of tranquilizers or sleeping pills.

Having tried pretty much every sleeping tablet on the market from my GP, the Phenergan was more effective. I am only going to use them very sparingly though when I'm desperate.
