Vagifem

Hi I posted recently Vagifem v Ovestin. I also had an attack of cystitis for which the GP prescribed Trimethoprim. I had been using the Ovestin once a week for long term treatment. Talking to everyone I decided to take the advice: start a loading dose of Vagifem for two weeks every night then reduce to twice a week. Has anyone else had a problem re having dryness still at the lower end of the vagina? It almost feels like the cystitis hasn't gone away and its quite sore.

Just wondered whether I should go back on the Ovestin as its cream and I can distribute some "there". Would there be a problem changing? I've done nine days with Vagifem. The application is not so messy as the cream but I had got used to it over the years. Do you think it would be OK to restart the Ovestin at this stage?

Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks Polly Ah that's good. It was all a bit rushed so I didn't get chance to ask many questions.

Yes, I will do. Terry certainly want to give this a good go. It will be fun packing these in my hand luggage on my mini break Hmm

Another question from me. i know I should/could have asked the nurse but it's easier on here (plus real life answers based on experience)

So my period is due at the start of next week. Maybe. How will it work with regard to the pessaries getting absorbed? I use a mooncup - so don't know whether to insert it higher up, or after putting in the cup.

Terrylene · 12/11/2017 16:00

I have always gone with inserting it higher up - but it comes out on tampons Sad but if I notice, I use another one. Usually, I make sure that I have used plenty before my period is due.

Thanks Terrylene

No period as of yet. Typically gone off my regular cycle now - as am going away next weekend, so it's bound to show then and hamper my fun. So am able to use the Vagifem as normal.

I’ve been on Vagifem for about 18 months. Started with the loading dose then dropped to twice weekly which wasn’t enough. Read on here that you can use it every day without ill effects so upped the frequency and asked GP to prescribe more.

Has anyone used silk as a moisturiser for their lady bits was recommended it today by the nurse .

Terrylene · 17/11/2017 16:32

Yes, sylk is fine, as is Yes. There are others such as Replens, which contain chemicals that push the moisture into the tissues. This makes them more effective, but also causes irritation so the first two are the best to try first.

PollyPerky · 17/11/2017 18:01

A very detailed piece of research by top UK gynae Nick Panay suggested that YES is the best one.

brownie50 · 17/11/2017 19:13

Just been looking online at silk and yes where's the best place to order and cheapest.

Terrylene · 17/11/2017 20:13

I get the yes online from the manufacturer. It is not particularly cheap anywhere. I have learned not to buy a huge one to try and make it cheaper, because I only use a bit. I got the VM last time. You could possibly order the one dose sachet things from the Chemist as they are available on prescription but are expensive. They also do an 'oil' which can be quite soothing.

I also use actigel from boots - this is more of a balancing thing rather than moisturiser, although it helps for me.
