I'm 54 and just about post menopause and suddenly experiencing vaginal dryness which is making it all a bit sore down there. Not currently sexually active. I might try some Oestrogen cream from the GP but thought first I'd try the vaginal moisturizer...any advice? Are they worth it? Which are the most i effective ?

You use Vagifem every night for two weeks, then twice a week ( forever ? ) after that. It's a tiny tablet that makes no mess. No hassle, though it's a shame it needs a single-use plastic applicator.

Bloody hell April did you mean to be so rude?
I guess this kind of thing is what people are complaining about when they talk about MN having changed these days.

I'm really pleased that the new NICE report mentioned long term use of vaginal HRT because until now there were too many women being denied long term use by their GPs, who thought they should only use it for a few months.

I think it's a personal choice over using either Vagifem or Ovestin. I was given the choice by my consultant meno gynae and chose Ovestin which is a cream (you can also use a dab externally if you get sore) and it's a weaker type of oestrogen than Vagifem. Having said that, it's probably a bit more of a faff to use, but - horses for courses! I've used it for almost 10 years - started before going for full HRT.

Yes, I had a doctor tell me last year that I could no longer use topical oestrogen as I had been on it for more than two years and that was the limit.....I put him straight on that one!
