What do you do about brutal night sweats?

I'm averaging minimum 14 nights each month where I sweat so badly the sheets need changing.
Some of those I wake up during the night and need to change them because I'm drenched and freezing, go back to bed and in the morning same again.

I'm at my wits end. Sad

Does anyone have any practical tips?

I haven't had a hormone test because I have other MH problems that take priority but I have been given Norhisterone to take days 12-26 and also take Starflower oil, Agnus Castus and Macca Root.

I will Polly thank you its so frustrating being fobbed off

Yeah I don't can't Get into surgery or hospital appointments without a meltdown or truckload of diazepam so I'm a bit of a ballache for the GP. Blush

I never have been able to even as a kid so they are very patient with me but it does mean consultation goes on via telephone most of the time.

Have you been offered CBT or counselling to try to overcome this phobia?

FantasticButtocks · 23/03/2016 08:50

Get yourself a bottle of Kalms - they work for me and I only take a third of the daily dose. Also, lots of exercise, walks are good. No alcohol. Best of luck.

Aye, CBT for two years when I was a teenager just to try and get me into the place to have proper CBT Grin

My MH dx are HFA and Schizophrenia and some chemical mood disorder that they can't decide the name for. I'm lucky that the HFA gives me a unique insight (according to my shrink) to monitor my moods so I can feel a high or low and ask for help.

Outside is just hard though, I even rented a tiny office in a farmers outbuilding so I didn't have to go into work near the city. I do my job from home now so I can happily exist in my garden walls.

It isn't impossible though so a bit of chemical cosh and determination should get me through a gyne (plus my smear is 18 years overdue) I can't do 10-15 years of this!

"NICE advice is that all women with premature menopause are treated with HRT. "

A friend with an early menopause was told that she can only take the pill for it as she's too young to be taking HRT for so many years.

pinkbraces · 23/03/2016 09:17

Just to reiterate what some other posters said, be armed with research.

I have a great GP really lovely, but she knew very little about HRT meds, I was initially prescribed a tablet, but after brilliant advice from a very knowledgeable mumsnetter I was able to go and tell her what I wanted and why.

I have now been on sequential patches for about 9 months and my night sweats have almost disappeared, along with most of the other symptoms.

Good luck OP, you will find something that will work for you but you must put in the research.

truckload of diazepam so I'm a bit of a ballache for the GP.

It's taken me a full three minutes to realise "bah-lahsh" is not, in fact, a French word and I don't need to bother trying to remember its translation to English. Wink

Ps--a cup of sage tea each day can be very helpful to minimise schvitzing.

If you can't bear the taste, add some mint and/or lavender.
