heavy periods and OUCH!

For the last year-18 months I've had 2 day long periods and had a glorious 8 weeks with no period whatsoever which coincided with the summer, it was bliss. Then last month I had a two week long period with 5 days that were fairly heavy and a few days of spotting. Yesterday evening my period came on, clots, heavy bleeding and now the most horrendous pain.
Feeling sorry for myself and contemplating the third bath of the day as nothing else helps. Wondering whether I should bother the GP tomorrow or whether they will just tell me it's part and parcel of being a 50 year old woman.

I believe in Tranexamic Acid for heavy prolonged periods. So does my GP (who is also in her very early fifties). It's given me my life back, there was no way I could work properly for one week in every four before I started using it.

Yeah, there is no way I could go to work like this. I want to cry because it hurts that much. I'm probably being a wimp, I've not had cramps like this since my teens.

It is probably the shitty ups and downs of perimenopause hormones. But I would go and see the gp to make sure it is not something else like fibroids or something, since things have been quieter for such a while before.

I think they usually give your Tranexamic acid or mefanamic acid, then try norithisterone, then there are other things if that is not enough.

I'm in the same boat. Horrendous period pain, clots, bleeding going on for weeks. GP is sending me for a scan, but I've been talking to post-menopausal friends and many of them had a heavy painful stage while in peri-meno. Its rubbish isn't it?

Yeah, it's rubbish. I've got to go for a blood test on Monday to see if I'm anaemic. In the meantime I've got pills to stop my period.

I had bloods on Thurs to check for anaemia, my iron was lowish anyway, so I imagine it has dropped, I certainly feel wiped out and faint. I think I need to get serious about looking into the pros/cons of HRT.
