Weird perimenopausal symptoms

Hi all. I have been suffering with a really dry burning sore mouth tongue and lips. Accompanied by a really horrible taste i am guessing due to the lack of saliva in there. Natch went to the dentists who found nothing wrong so I hot footed to the docs. He has said he thinks I am perimenopausal and this is a less common symptom. I have never heard of anyone else suffering this. I am having irregular periods and right now they full on heavy but I have no flushes or sweating or any of what I thought entering the menopause entailed. I am 48. Anyone else had similarnand if so what relief is there? It is reall distressing

Are you on any medication?

Hassled · 07/11/2015 17:27

Burning Mouth Syndrome - yes, one of the many joys that goes with the menopause. The fun just keeps on coming. Link. All I can tell you is that for me it comes and goes, and after an initial awful bout, I have the odd flare-up and then it vanishes for a good few months. I am much more likely to have it when I'm stressed, I've worked out. And I'm on HRT, which I think I've read can help.

The doc gave me some rubbish pastilles that don't really help. I am not on any other meds that might have the unwanted side effect of dry mouth. Looking more closely at other perimen symptoms I think I started 12 months ago but didn't put 2 and 2 together. Was the doc happy for you to go on HRT, some friends have said doctors aren't as keen right now on going down that road. What other symptoms did you have? . Hope this symptom eases soon. It is terrible....sob... x

Hello lovely ladies…

I need some help about my burning mouth, sore tongue, burning throat and fatigue. Has anyone else had this through peri menopause?
if I walk or do anything strenuous I just get so weak. I have to sit down, can move for about 15 minutes. The sore mouth is the worst - I’ve had it for 7 months now. I’ve just started hrt but feel even more tired. I’ve only had the patch on for a couple of days.

Im booked in for a full mot at the hospital soon as my doctors do not think it’s anything to do with hormones but the worry of waiting is driving me crazy…

I cry everyday I cannot cope with my mouth it’s the worst.

Thanks ladies
Tara x

I have the constant feeling of a dry mouth even though its not which started in peri, checked out at dentist. Also have the joys of dry eyes and nasal membranes
Menopause the gift that keeps on giving!

I also had this a couple of years ago, was given some mouth spray by the GP but didn't help much. It wasn't suggested to me at the time it was a peri menopausal symptom but it did start at the same time as other symptoms, sweats, irregular bleeding etc so I had bloods/scan done and was confirmed I was in peri menopause. It was really awful at the time but did eventually pass, I just get the occasional mild burning dry feeling now.

Hi there

I think I must have had this a year or 2 ago, along with loads of other peri symptoms. It drove me mad and sad. Went to dentist, took mercury out as thought it was that, went docs and nothing. Then I thought it was silent reflux, I had metal taste and just wouldn't go

I took some acid pills, but still couldn't tell what it was. Had it off and on for a year, then all of a sudden just left!

I just swished with water alot, chewed gum, not much helped.

Hi all,
I had the burning throat and tongue discomfort so thanks to the ladies who had similar symptoms. Been going on for 7 months, nobody could diagnose me so my husband and I researched this to hopefully be peri-menopause. I’m using the patches now but nobody explained there were two different ones, they look exactly the same. 😬
anyway I used the oestrogen patch first which was right but then just grabbed another when I needed to change it. It was the Conti one but didn’t know this until it was nearly time to change it. I was feeling really shaky as if my blood sugars were all wrong, I’ve gone back to the correct patch now but does anyone know how that conti patch works, I suppose I didn’t have enough oestrogen and put too much of the other hormone in my body🤷‍♀️
I can’t remember anything at the best of times but it would have been nice for my doctor to explain hrt to me - my husband and I have basically had to diagnose me…
