Utrogestan - Help!

Please can somebody tell me what I need to say to my GP in order to get them to agree to prescribe utrogestan and oestrogen gel.
I have now tried 2 different types of HRT and really struggle with the progestorene. Last month that I thought I was having a severe depressive episode only for the symptoms to disappear within a few days of stopping the progesterone.
I have tried unsuccessfully to get the last two doctors that I have seen to prescribe utrogestan. I am seeing another doctor next week - who I am told has a particular interest in women's health - and I really want to makes sure that I go in armed with all the information that I need to ensure that I don't get fobbed of yet again!

My GP prescribed Utrogestan for me, and sadly it didn't suit me. Made me feel incredibly stressed/anxious/depressed and gave me terrible stomach ache. I am now back on Provera for the progesterone part of my HRT. Good luck with your appointment though, hopefully this GP will prescribe it for you.

Why did your previous doctor refuse?

You could try any of the following:

-Both items are body-identical (ie molecular structure is same as our own for both oestrogen and progesterone)
-Progesterone - as in Utrogestan- may be less risky re. breast cancer as it's micronised (natural) progesterone and not a synthetic progestogen (which seems to be linked to breast cancer)
-Gel can be used as much or as little as needed within the guidelines of the product information.

Also- many consultant gynaes prescribe this combination and some have a preference for it re. safety over other types of HRT.

Thanks Bluebell - I don't know what to try if I can't get on with Utrogestan!
I feel as if I will just have to give up on HRT all together - which I don't want to do but I can't spend half the month having panic attacks and crying. Aaagh!

Anyoldusername1 - both doctors have refused because they said that they had no experience of prescribing Utrogestan for HRT and were completely clueless about how they would do it.

There are prescribing guidelines in Mimms I think as well as on the accompanying leaflet in the box. If they were bothered interested they could find out surely? They could ask the pharmacist perhaps?
The prescribing guidelines are also on the web under the product name.

It took me 20 seconds to find this.
Why can't they do the same?

I had to go to see a doc privately to get this.

Your ignorant doctor is fobbing you off - this is inexcusable. My actual GP also had not heard of it but I said what it was and what it was for and she had to look it up in her little book. It comes under "micronised progesterone" as a generic name.
You could also look at the Menopause Matters website which lists the different HRT types:
Progestogens for HRT
You do not need to go privately but you might have to be assertive!
I used transdermal HRT from the start because I said the the gynae GP that I didn't want to take HRT orally because of needing to go through the liver. They have to respect your wishes.

My private gynae gave me an nhs prescription for both the gel and Ustrogestan. Thanks goodness she did as I am now sleeping normally again thanks to the pills. You go through all the normal cycles of sleep. Only downside is you have to have not eaten for 2 hours when you take them before bed. Don't give up. Fight to get them even if you have to go private if you can and get an nhs prescription like me.
