Private menopause clinic

I have seen a gynacologist and am not happy with his suggestions.
If I have a private consultation and they suggest a different treatment, will my doctor have to prescribe it or am I now stuck with what NHS has suggested?

There aren't many private clinics just for menopause. You can though see a consultant gynaecologist privately, but it's best to research their interests and specialisms so you choose one who deals with menopause sympathetically even if this means you have to travel to another town. You can find this by looking them up, asking people for recommendations or your local private hospital(s) are a good place to start. Many consultants also work in the NHS even if it's very part time. If a consultant suggests something for you then that would take priority over any previous appointments (I assume.) Also- treating anything should be a partnership between you and the doctor, where your opinion counts- you can't have treatment forced on you if you don't want it or have a preference for something else and it's safe for you. Once a consultant has prescribed something they will write to your GP and they should continue the prescription. You can of course bypass your GP altogether and get HRT(if that's what you want) from your consultant who will manage the prescriptions. These would be private prescriptions and you can find out the costs of a drug online- some HRT is as little as £5-ish a month. You'd then need to factor in the cost of seeing the consultant maybe once every 6-12 months for a review of it all. Hope this helps!
