Cerelle (desogestrel) - help!!!

So, just got back from the drs. He's prescribed me Cerelle. What I'm hoping to get from this, is less pain...during period/shortly after period time. Is there a realistic chance that I will get less pain on this pill?

Also, can I just start taking it now. I'm....3/4 days since my last period...and I want to do anything possible to make the next period less hurty. I don't care about any contraceptive value, husband has had the snip.

What makes my situation extremely complicated is that I'm away for 6 months, as from the end of October - so no gynae appointment can be made for me. I've also moved, and moved drs....so this dr has no notes and was very ratty/rude about that fact - even though I was able to competently describe the symptoms, give him timelines... tell him naproxafen/mefenamic acid does nothing....over the counter pain killers do nothing. Yeah, he had a very bad attitude to it all. Drs REALLY don't want to listen to what the actual patient has to say, eh!!

So the plan is....take Cerelle for the 6 months I'm away... If it's a mare....seek a gynae appointment soon as I'm back in April 2016...

Mainly here, I'm interested in any thoughts on Cerelle....for period pain that's unbearable for 7/8 days. (The period itself is NOT heavy, it's normal).

I don't know the answer about the medication but I'd not tolerate that attitude from a jumped-up GP. Some drs are lovely- my gynae is adorable.

I don't know if you have the option but another GP? It's not your fault your notes were not there- and aren't they all computerised anyway- so nothing to do with you!

Surely you can see another dr if you are away?

I'm in Arizona for 6 months.. :( Bit of a bummer really cos of this issue now.. Still, I'll be back, and then I can ramp it up and bit and insist on a gynae appointment. I went to the appointment in a business suit too, just to try to give the message: HEY! I am just the same as you are.....and here to be fully respected.

Didn't seem to make any difference..

I think the high progestogen contraceptives (like mirena, implant, injection and this) are a bit variable and some people have lots of bleeding and some none. You can only try it!

I had it briefly after coming off the coc and had no period but some occasional light spotting.

If you can afford it, you could see a private gynae before you go. It would be a one-off appt for around £150-£200 and they would tell your Gp what to prescribe, long term.

again, you can only try. For many, me included, it stops periods totally. For others, it produces continual bleeding/spotting.

here's hoping you are in the first category!

I take it but more for atrocious PMS. It's pretty much changed my life (and that of may family!). I'm pretty close to menopause and recently I have been getting twingey period type pains (I don't get a period on it at all) and hints of the madness returning, so I'm now on a double dose every day and it's all settled down.

When I took it at first the emotional symptoms got much worse for the first couple of weeks then cleared up altogether, so maybe be prepared for a bit of up and down moods at first. I've responded really well to it but I think the effects are really variable.
