Straight from breastfeeding to menopause?

Hi girls, I'm hoping for sone insight. I recently gave up breastfeeding my son about a week ago (now 7.5 months) and was down to 1 feed a day. However, still No sign of a period! It seems that most of my friends who had babies at the same time have had theirs back even though they are still feeding. This makes me panic for 2 reasons:

  • I know I have low egg supply
  • I would really like another baby

I've also been waking up hot occasionally in the night- not drenched but a bit sweaty- is this a night sweat?!

I'm really scared because I really want to gety period back and at least have a chance to conceive again. I'm 36. My mother went through the change suddenly at around 47/48 although she was a heavy smoker which may or may not have influenced it. I know I could get the gp to run blood tests but tbh I'm very scared to do this in case it confirms that i am menopausal!

Any reassurance or advice from anyone?

Honestly I wouldn't panic yet. It's very early days since stopping bf. Your hormones will be all over the place, and you won't have a period until roughly 2 weeks after you ovulate which could be a variable amount of time from stopping the bf. It's very unlikely to be the menopause. The sweats are likely due to fluctuating hormone levels at the point. If I were you I would give it 6-8 weeks then if you're still concerned pop along to your GP for a chat.

I got terrible hot sweats when i stopped bfing - it's the hormones ,, i suspect that's what this is, but no harm in going to gp if you're worried.

Thanks for the responses. I suppose I'll just have to wait it out a bit longer and hope for the best! Isn't it right that U can have menopausal symptoms for ten years or something though?
