Coming off HRT - what should I expect?

I have been on Evoral patches for 5 and a half years now and my consultant and I feel it is in my best interests to come off them. I'm on the lowest dosage (25mg) and I have been gradually using them less in recent months. My nest apt is in Nov and I know the consultant will advise me to come off them. I want to as well (I'm not being pressured).

What can I expect? are there any supplements or vits I should start taking ? I have read a lot about red clover and black cohosh - if anyone has any suggestions I would be very grateful, thanks.xxxx

If there are medical reasons to come off them then that's fine. If your consultant is a bit out of date and going along with the 2-5 years 'rule' then he's not up to date with the latest NICE guidelines which are - no time limit. why has he reached this decision? Other consultants would tell you to carry on indefinitely as long as you are benefiting and have no medical reason to stop (and especially if you are under 60.)

Having said that, I've read that taking supplements like Menopace may help if you start them before you stop- at least 3 months- and then tail off the HRT very gradually over 6 months. Black cohosh does not have a good safety profile long term- you can google this- and red clover may help- but it's trial and error.

Thanks pinkfrocks; I am wondering if I should push to keep on it. There is a history of cancer in my family though Sad

You should be able to stay on it especially as it sounds like you are on oestrogen only HRT. How old are you anyway?
Sorry to hear about the cancer but what sort of cancer and how close are/were the relatives? It doesn't automatically preculde you from taking HRT nor mean you should stop after 5 years.
