I am 44 and have an fsh of 44. I am really struggling with hot flushes and severe mood swings. I am reluctant to go on hrt as I feel quite young for all this but I really need help before I lose my mind. Any help or advice would be really appreciated....are there risks with hrt? Thank you in advance!

the level of oestrogen in the PIll is WAY higher than in HRT.
I had some initial feelings of nausea when using oestrogen gel,but got round it by dividing the dose morning/ evening.

Evening primrose oil is supposedly helpful for sore breasts during PMS cycles, but I don't think it helps menopause.

sophster10 · 19/06/2015 18:04

I went to see my gynaecologist and he told me because I have premature menopause I need to be on hrt and there were no risks as I'm 44 and need the hormones..I have been given femoston 2/10... He was very confident that I would start feeling better and get my life back...I'm abit apprehensive about taking the tablets but excited about feeling normal and happy again!

Hoping they start to work for you &
Things get better

Pink frocks. As my joints are playing up (for whatever reason) & my anxiety. Muscle tension would it be a reasonable request to try HRT to protect my joints from further problems? I am waking every morning with terrible cramps in my legs & sweating. Don't know if this is perimenopausal or stress

PeterSpots · 19/06/2015 20:35

& im anemic, got an underactive thyroid & im vit d deficient

pinkfrocks · 19/06/2015 20:38

I don't know Peter- you need to ask your gynaecologist. Some women with aches and pains in their joints find HRT helps but it's not a cure all especially when you have other things going on. It's going to be trial and error- trying things and seeing if they help.

PeterSpots · 19/06/2015 20:43

Thank you. I know it's not a cure all (I know I've been looking for one) but I just wondered if it was worth a try also I don't want any other problems popping up. Will ask & see what he says. Thank you again

I don't know where the post anymore. I have so many things wrong. The pressure & pinching behind my pubic bone is getting worse & I've not had it for 17 years. My face has pressure/tingling for 6 months & my buttocks, legs & ankles, joints. for a month & no tingling in my hands & body. Couldn't understand how this could all come at once. Thought maybe peri menopause but to cause all this havoc just doesn't seem possible. Seeing gynae on Wednesday but he's scanned inside & it looks ok. Veins not too swollen. I will have nowhere to go. The change couldn't do all this. Maybe stress but I have had stress in the last 15 years and not had the pelvic thing. Sorry to whitter I just don't know what to do & I can't even find anywhere on here where people have the same things as me. Which makes me worry things will never change.

vintagefiend · 21/06/2015 14:09

Hi Peterspots- hope you're OK.
Just so you know, I have aching joints as well- not as severe as yours-but defintitely there. hadn't mentioned it cos not as bad as emotional symptoms.
i have some hrt now-yay!- so i'll let you know whether the aches disappear.
i also have low ferritin and low vit d (i think these are not uncommon).
i mention those just to show that i share some (though, i realise not all) of your symptoms and that, while you maybe shouldn't rule out the possibility of something other than perimenopause- neither should you rule out that it could at least in part be due to perimenopause!
remember also that my blood test did not indicate perimenopause (ie i have normal fsh) but if my hrt works (please, universe, make it so!)- then that would strongly indicate that diagnosis of perimenopause is correct.
i dont know about all your symptoms and i am not medically trained but i do wonder, from lay person point of view whether it might be worth your while considering HRT?
obvs one has to be cautious so you'd need to weigh up risks vs benefits
sorry if this is rather muddled and i'm very wary of appearing to give advice when i don't have much of a clue(!)- but you're obviously struggling and i just hope you get sorted out!
by the way-did you say you're in your forties?

Hello. Thank you for being kind and answering. I am so full of anxiety over these physical symptoms. The pelvic pain nearly broke me 15 years ago and then the buttock (10 years ago - took 2 years to recover from falling down the stairs) and the face sensations on top & now the joints joining in. It doesn't make sense unless it is extreme stress or my hormones have gone haywire. I just want to feel normal again. Good luck. I feel so anxious, alone & deperate. I am married but it was very stressful when I was ill before & my husband didn't support me. In the last ten years I have been healthy & happy. I've had stress but never had this severe reaction. I'm going to see a physio about my buttocks but I'm not sure what will happen about the pelvic pain(behind Pubic bone) or it will settle with the HRT. Good luck with yours & thank you again

I'm 49 1/2 at 49 I was happy & healthy doing yoga x3 week & a Zumba class. Now I'm struggling to put on a brave face at home & at work

vintagefiend · 21/06/2015 20:28

thanks peterspots-
i'll certainly give update on the forum if and when i feel normal! the holy grail is just to feel normal, isn't it!!
i asked your age just to check that you wouldn't be scarily young for hrt.
sounds like it's all overwhelmed you very quickly- i couldn't say how long it's all crept on me but feel i'm hanging on by a thread now!
hopefully i'll be singing the praises of oestrogel this time next month (though i know it might take longer)
take care x

Hello. Had my appointment with gynaecologist today. My blood test showed I am in menopause. He prescribed HRT but it is trial & error if it will help with my symptoms. He thinks the pelvic pain could have returned because of the hormones

PeterSpots · 25/06/2015 11:15

I'm finding the bladder pressure really hard to deal with and I can't concentrate at work. Hoping the HRT will help. Sorry to keep moaning. Just trying to talk about it.

PeterSpots · 25/06/2015 12:38

If you are about pink frocks or anybody please. Should I ask for tablets or patches. Seeing doctor at 4.00

rosemaryc · 25/06/2015 15:11

Hi Peterspots - well that's good news I suppose?! In that you maybe have an explaination? Did you say you were still having periods - sorry I can't remember. I get my results next Friday but no sign a year ago (apart from low hormone levels). Pinkfrocks obviously knows more but certainly, from what little I gleaned from my very eminent but uncommunicative gynae last week, transdermal is preferable. The NHS also do bioidentical versions.

PeterSpots · 25/06/2015 16:36

Just waiting to go into doctors. Don't know why this problem has reoccurred. Maybe it is hormonal but I am struggling to cope. I'm supposed to be in Mexico in 3 weeks. I feel scared to go. I feel like my groin/bladder is going to burst. Sounds mad I know. It's awful.

PeterSpots · 25/06/2015 17:49

I have been prescribed fe seven sequi patches. I pray they will help with the bladder/pelvic pain. The other stuff is not nice but nothing compared to this.

CillaSlack · 25/06/2015 20:52

This thread has given me the push I needed - have just booked an appointment with my GP for next week. I have had lots of symptoms for a while such as mood swings, tearfulness, anger, hot flushes and extreme tiredness. I have a stressful job that requires lots of concentration and I am really struggling in the afternoons now. My marriage is also close to breaking down but I'm not sure if this is related to how I'm feeling or not Confused

I had extensive blood tests a few weeks ago and was informed that I was menopausal and advised that if I couldn't cope with the symptoms to go back to the GP. Hopefully HRT can help.

rosemaryc · 25/06/2015 22:09

Hope it helps Peterspots x

PeterSpots · 25/06/2015 22:35

Thank you. I asked for patches after your post. It's very lonely having horrible symptoms. I send good wishes & answers to you Rosemaryc. Good luck cillaslack x

rosemaryc · 26/06/2015 09:33

It is incredibly isolating Peterspots, especially when you also don't know what is wrong. I've been like this 2.5yrs :-( I hope that the HRT helps you and in time for your trip.

HormonalHeap · 26/06/2015 17:38

I'm a much happier person after starting hrt. Mainly because I am able to sleep. I'm 47. I went to a private consultant specialising in Meno who told me there would be no risk on hrt until age 52, and then only slight. She told me it was more dangerous for me NOT to take it, as that could lead to osteoporosis and heart problems. She told me if I was lacking in iron I would take iron tablets. Same with oestrogen.

I wanted to see if I could 'manage' without, like my mum did. I couldn't.

rosemaryc · 26/06/2015 18:53

Glad to hear it's worked for you HormonalHeap. I am about to turn 46 and last year when I had tests done there was no indication of menopause but I had pretty low levels of everything. Hoping new blood tests will indicate something that might mean that there is something that can be done!

HormonalHeap · 26/06/2015 22:50

rosemaryc I also had blood tests last year and there was no indication of low oestragen. But after losing a stone and a half, my levels plummeted (this may be coincidence).

I found the lack of sleep impacted on every area of my life. I didn't have the energy to go to the gym so I was inactive, and craved sugar. I snapped at my dh and kids. I just wasn't enjoying life. Wish you luck with your new blood tests. My consultant told me she was taking her HRT gel to her grave..I now see where she's coming from. I appreciate others feel differently, but if you are told you are low risk, why suffer?

PeterSpots · 26/06/2015 23:33

Hello. Started my HRT today, as the patch fell off yesterday. Can't believe this is what's causing all my horrible physical symptoms but if it is I will tell the world .....why didn't you warn me!
