Hi everybody,
I am 46 and wonder if this is the start of the menopause.
I have always had very regular periods, I finished my last on 20th March and then yesterday (3rd April) it arrived again. The last at the end of March was as normal, 4 days long, no particular pain or bad moods (these symptoms got much better after I gave birth 10 years ago) but this current bleed is hell, heavy, painful, bad cramps and upset stomach.
For the last year or two I do sometimes get very hot but not what I would imagine a hot flush feels like, I am also getting nasty little spots around my jawline plus lots of lovely little bristles on the chin that are multiplying and I hate it.
However, my hair is still thick and glossy, my skin is no dryer and my moods are pretty stable.
I am not sure if this 2nd period warrants a doctors visit or if this is just normal at almost 47. I had a smear test within the last 6 months which was normal.
I am gaining weight around the waist but frankly I am eating a lot right now, I get very tired but put that down to my crap diet which I am changing. oh the joy of being a woman.

Hi, I'm in much the same boat. I will be 44 soon. My last period started on 19 March, fizzled out a bit, and now has come back. The first period was much lighter than normal, but this seond one is more like my usual ones, heaviness-wise.

I have had this once before, about a year ago.

My only real sign of perimeopause is that my periods have gone totally haywire. Last year I had cycles of 45, 70 and 111 days! (Among more normal length ones, obviously.) So far this year, no long cycles but I would like some, as going for several months without a period is fantastic (even if I did spend the whole time wondering if it would make its eventual appearance at the worst possible moment...)

Anyway, I haven't been to a doctor about this - I've just "self diagnosed" it as perimenopause!

PS for your jawline spots you could try taking Agnus Castus.

No need to see the dr about irregular cycles once you are over 45 unless you have bad flooding or bleeding in between cycles or after sex. It's just your hormones! The only reason to see the dr would be if you had other symptoms that were really annoying and wanted to use HRT.

Thanks for the replies, I feel very tired today but as I am bleeding heavily I am not surprised. I wonder if natural supplements hep at all, there is a lot of conflicting advice and views on them.

what do you want natural supplements to do- what would your expectations be?

The research shows that no natural products have any real effect ( compared to HRT) but it depends on what you want to prevent or treat.

Diet and exercise can be very helpful for peri type symptoms, as can yoga, acupuncture, and all kinds of stress-relieving treatments. But you won't find anything 'natural' to regulate cycles - except maybe acupuncture- but that is expensive.

Thanks pinkfrocks, I thought maybe a supplement along with a better diet might help with the tiredness and maybe my skin, these little jawline pimples get me down. Today I have woken up with a cold so I am feeling pretty grim all round.
