What is this tummy and how can I get rid of it?

I'm 50 and I've had some perimenopause symptoms like night sweats, spotting and irregular periods.
My tummy keeps getting massive f**g massive I'm telling you and it's driving me crazy. I've always been skinny and even now I'm mostly skinny all over except for this football I'm carrying around. I look 5 months pregnant.
What is in there? Is it water or is it fat? And either way what can be done or do I need to wait until the menopause is over?
I walk a lot and my diet though not healthy is unchanged.

Piccie???

Without seeing it, it's hard to say :)

Sounds like middle aged spread TBH.

It's fat. You probably need to cut back on the food because everyone's metabolism changes in middle age- men's too.

You ( and anyone!) can't carry on eating what you did in your 20s and 30s because you don't need that many calories any more unless you are super-active and doing really intensive workouts or have a manual type job.

Piccie- no way!

Fat eh? Sigh. The worst scenario. I was hoping I could eat a few Activia yoghurts and it would melt away.

I am trying to alter my diet now.

I would go to the GP and get it checked out, if I were you.

what a fat tum?

If you mean it might be cancer, a tumour or perhaps ovarian cancer then there are certain signs and symptoms to look out for. The charity OVACOME has useful info.

If it is swollen rather than fat I would go to the GP.

It fluctuates in size which I believe is not the case with ovarian cancer?

I'll have a look again at the symptoms but last time I remember coming away pretty sure they didn't match.

If you have bloating, change in bowel habits, pressure on your bladder, a feeling of fullness after eating, loss of weight or loss of appetite then these are warning signs, as would be blood from bowels etc.

You can chart your symptoms on a tool on the ovacome site so that in a few weeks you can see exactly what symptoms you had and how often.

On the other hand, cut out 90% of carbs from your diet for 2 weeks, all sugar and booze, and eat only lean protein, fruit and vegs and maybe a little oats (in porridge). if you lose the tummy then it was fat.

pinkfrocks thanks, I have signed up.

Meanwhile I'll cut carbs a bit.
