I'm now going to embark on my 4th try of HRT. My prescription should be ready Mon/Tues. The doctor suggested this one as I really suffer with tiredness (as well as the flushes etc).

Has anyone tried it? Smile

Hi there, I have been taking Tibolone for many years and I have found it very effective, it takes a good 3 months to completely eradicate the hot flushes etc, so you need to try them for that length of time before you can decide if they are effective for you.

Hope this is helpful to you.
Cheers.

Frignorant, I have just been given this HRT. Been on it for 3 days and desperate for help with hot flushes and getting some sleep. How long did it take before it worked for you?

hi ive been taking tibolone for 1 wk now but flushes seem to be getting worse i also am finding it hard to sleep, how long before they start working and has anyone been on them and theyve been no gd? have tried other types of hrt but no gd, getting desperate

Tibolone is a different sort of HRT compared to almost all the others and is usually prescribed for women who can't use other types of HRT for various reasons.
Do you know why your dr chose that for you rather than some other type?
Which other sort did you try and why did those types not work?

How old are you? Are you wanting to have a no-bleed type or why not use bio identical oestrogen and a separate bio identical progesterone? These often have fewer side effects than synthetic versions and Tibolone is synthetic.

I was prescribed this one because I got headaches on the other one, I can't remember what it was called and I haven't had a bleed for a year now and don't want one!!

suorourk · 22/03/2015 18:20

I have tried kliofem, kilovance, elleste duet, premique and 2 others that I cannot remember their names. Kliofem has been the best but side effects of huge bleeding made it impossible to continue to take. It looney is perhaps my last chance. Five days in no improvement in sleep or hot flushes, in fact flushes seem to be getting worse.

THIS list shows all the ingredients of HRT for post menopause. There is another list on the same part of website for peri meno HRT.

suorouk if you were having too much bleeding that implies you had too high a dose of oestrogen and too little progestogen which keeps the lining thin(ner.)

Many women find patches or oestrogen gel better than pills, with pills you have to take much higher doses because so much of the hormone is lost during digestion.

You would maybe get on better with 2 separate hormones- oestrogen as a patch or gel ( where you can adjust the dose yourself every week to get the right level) and a progesterone which you add in for 10-12 days a month or maybe 7 days if you are very sensitive to it.

I suggest you read MM website and maybe even post there because there are lots of women with experiences of different HRT regimes. There WILL be one that suits- you just need to find it.

thank you, you are helpful! I am so tired of visiting doctors who don't care and dish out prescriptions for HRT without ever really talking to the patient. Kliofem worked well except for the bleeding. Could I just take one tablet every second day?

pinkfrocks · 23/03/2015 08:27

I think you ought to read about the various doses available on the link I left. You were taking 2mgs oestrogen with Kliofem. There is a 1mg version- Kliovance.

You could ask your dr for a referral to a menopause clinic or have a look at the list of specialists on the MM site and see someone for a 1-off appt for advice.

But 5 days is not enough time for any HRT to work- you'd be told to give any new one 3 months then try another.

I'd still advise you to move away from pills and think about patches or gel because long term these are safer re. blood clots.

thank you PinFrocks, more helpful than any doctor!

Hi guys I’ve been put on tibolone after 14 years suffering with HRT I started with prempack c which was amazing until it got discontinued of the NHS meds list then kilofem the ended up with uterine cancer scare turned out to thick lining of the uterus… I was then prescribed vagifem pessaries abd put back on kilofem !! Totally didn’t work so my GP put me on oestrogen gel in pump and progesterone tabs so I could work ‘0ff script’ to control my flushes …. Ended up doing 8 pumps a day and my GP took me off it immediately… now on tibolone … fingers crossed this works and I’m only 56 years old no kids so started menopause early forties :( nightmare just want my life back … I’m training 5 days a week and on BSD to help control me weight … however I’ve already put 5lbs on :( still having hot flushes as my GP said it will take anything up to 3 months feeling really desperate :( will carry on as I have another 6 weeks before i touch base again with my GP so hoping testosterone will help any advise will help x

I have been on tibolone now for 3weeks. Still can't see anything happening. Maybe it's still early.it takes around 3mths to start seeing the effect. Good luck 😊
