Periods - do you always need to see a doctor if your period keeps flowing?

Had light headedness one day last week when it suddenly flooded but otherwise just usual feelings of menopause eg foggy head etc. now starting fourth week of continuous period. Wondering if anyone anyone had same experienceand just continued to deal with it until it stopped or does it mean you really need to get checked out even if you are fine?

Guess I'm trying to ask is it ok just to leave it if no other problems? I've searched websites but nothing so turning to those with experience or are in the know about such matters.

I would get it checked.

Yes, you need to make an appointment.
Don't worry, though. It's not that uncommon, I believe, but something you should get advice on rather than just ignore.

Thank you . Not what I was hoping for - hate trying to get appointments plus last time i mentioned something about menopause doctor just seemed disinterested so I felt you should just accept what's occurring as just normal.

4 weeks of bleeding is not 'normal'.
It may or may not be something serious. Of course it isn't fun, but you really need to get yourself checked.

Also, it doesn't matter if the doctor is interested or uninterested in what you have to say. It's still her job to listen to you and give you medical care.

Hi how old are you? I am 10 days having a very heavy period now with clots on pad and passing in toilet tmi sorry! this is my first period in 6 wks and my periods have been coming roughly every 6 wks but only lasting 3-4 days since around easter so having a heavy prolonged period is making me feel awful. I have soaked myself whilst out twice this week it is so embarrassing and am wondering when it will end so your 4 wk period is making me go ahh!!! I have just turned 46 so thinking its perimenopuse knocking on the door! nice to have a fellow sufferer I mean that in the nicest way! Its shite this getting older lark!

51 so very much the age for it all to be happening sadly but feel for anyone who has started all this at a younger age. It seems to be stopping hardly anything since tea time, so now thinking will wait a day or two and if flow starts to get more I will get an appointment. Thanks everyone. If you think I'm being silly about waiting feel free to tell me - if possible, in a nice way please!

kissmelittleass yours actually sounds worse than mine as i have only had two really very heavy days and no clottingotherwise just normal flow but after 7 days thought surely should stop soon then continued. It's more the fact that it's been so long now but like I said hoping it's ending now.

I really think it's advisable to make an appointment and mention what's happened, even if it stops.

MrsSquirrel · 13/10/2014 16:02

Fingers crossed that's the end of it. Yes absolutely if it starts again, make an appointment.

You might want to bear in mind that with all the bleeding you might become anaemic. That's what happened to me. It's easily sorted with iron supplements, though. I felt much better after taking them, didn't even realise how run down I had become.

haretyme · 13/10/2014 23:54

Thank you all very much.

All quiet but decided will make that appointment tomorrow.
