Give myself a break?

44, been in menopuase for 1 year now... really stuck between 'suffering the symptoms '..(and all those around me suffering too) or giving myself a break and going on HRT.

Pros - > Sleep, no sweats, return of libido, return of the nice me
Cons -> terrified of further weight gain (up a stone in 1 year), terrified of taking the meds, terrified of the risks (2 cousins had breast cancer)

My consultant was vague and uninterested,my GP more caring - both leaving the decision to me... I don't know what do to !

Advice?

I'm going through premature menopause im 31 and have started HRT 2 months ago. I couldn't deal with all the symptoms,I seem to have most of them :-(

My GP said it's for the best that I take HRT for long term health benefits, osteoporosis and heart disease.

At 44 I think thats early menopause and your Dr should at least discuss health benefits of HRT for you. Ask them about the pros/cons.

I totally understand where you're coming from with being terrified of the risks. Im am too and my Dr said I will need them for 20 years! BUT I couldn't go on the way I was feeling.

Just quickly - but your consultant sounds hopeless- is he/ she a gynae?

At 44 you are considered to be in premature or early menopause ( before age 45 though sometimes now they say 47).

The risks of cancer etc do not start to add up until you are over 50 -52 - age or normal meno- if you are using HRT so you could have a good 8 years on it without increasing your risk.

If you don't use HRT your lifetime risk of osteoporosis and heart disease is increased.

Pretty shocked your consultant doesn't tell you this Angry

quick ps- no evidence that HRT causes weight gain.

Was at doc today ... am now on HRT (1st tablet taken) - oh Oestrogen come flood my body!!!! Funny how the label HRT terrified me and made me feel ancient - collecting my script at the Chemist, I woke up.

Time to get back to the old (or new) me!!!
