vagifem and breast tenderness

Anyone else experience this?

I know that 10mmg is tiny and technically unlikely to be absorbed into the blood stream and impact on other area, ie, breasts. However swollen breast and tenderness is sited as least likely experienced side effect so possible.

Yes, I had breast tenderness. similar to the pre menstrual tenderness I used to get. I stopped taking vagifem after a few months as it seemed to make my symptoms worse not better. I then read a book on herbal remedies, i tried several. I found my worst problem was hot flushes, getting very hot and sweaty, several times a day, followed by feeling cold and shivery. Eventually after trying several herbal remedies, I found high doses, 1000 mg of Vitamin C and 3 cups of Sage tea a day, (1 teaspoon of dried sage you buy in the supermarket in a tea cup infused with boiling water for 5 mins) reduced both the number of flushes and their intensity to almost nil. so I went 'au naturel' in the end. Hope this might help.

There are some stats around which show something along the lines of the amount of oestrogen absorbed from vaginal HRT over a year is equivalent to 1 HRT pill. So in other words, a tiny amount.

If you need Vagifem then you need it! Once you get past the loading stage - every day for 2 weeks- then you will absorb less as the vaginal tissues will be thicker and plumper.

Is it coincidence or are you peri menopausal and it could be your own cycle kicking in?

I don't know but when I got the coil fitted my breasts were very sore for about 6 weeks! (The coil releases a small amount of progesterone)

Yes, I do think it might depend on what stage of the menopause you are at, and why your doctor prescribed it in the first place. It - vagifem -worked fine vaginally, but it was the hot flushes that were the main problem for me.

I'm several years post menopausal now. I still get flushes, and I recently met a woman over 80 who said she still gets them. I just go back to the vit c and sage tea and then they improve again. It has been great to be free of periods and breast tenderness, pmt etc.

I just sometimes get a slight feeling of anger for no discernible reason, (PMT) for a minute, literally just a minute, then the hot flush comes. I see them coming a mile off now, and just take deep breaths. The flush and sweating usually last 3 -10 mins then I can feel cold and shivery for about half and hour.

my mum still has hot flushes and she is over 80. some women never get rid of them but HRT does work! I couldn't work ( in close contact with people) if I was putting up with what you are titabeth.

Thanks for the responses. I think you're right about my cycle kicking in again. And reassuring 'if you need vagifem then you need it' and yes I need it.

Just a quick up-date. I stopped taking the Vegifem 17 days ago and have been using BV suppositiories for moisturising every other night. This is proving to be very effective. The breast tenderness remains.

Is the tenderness on both breasts?

I have noticed as I have got older, am peri- menopausal that mine have got more lumpy. I use Ovestin but have not had any tenderness.
