I'm self diagnosed perimenopausal and the mood swings and 'rage' can be so bad that I really think I need professional help! I'm reluctant to go to my GP as I'd prefer to see a specialist even if it means paying. Has anyone else done this?

Having done my research I've come across Annie Evans, nick Panay and john studd. I had an email consultation with Annie Evans who confirmed I'm likely to be perimenopausal but my gynaecologist was a bit scathing about her and has put me off seeing her.

Can anyone recommend anyone...?

After a year of peri menopausal Hell, I did some research and found that Prof Studd is considered the leading expert on all things hormonal.

I have been to see him twice now and he's a magician, I swear to God. No more insomnia. No more mood swings. No more aches and pains in my ankles every morning. Libido back with a vengence. Skin and hair really smooth and silky.

He's not cheap. It's £300 for the consultation + £350 for bloods. But worth every penny, and more Smile

I had severe menopause, fatigue, flat, for a year them after that, my breast when for a B to a G, stomach and so tired then i could barely get up

I went to Chelsea and westminster via gip to see Mr Nick Paney and he left me speechless: offered me oestrogen patches (ok) and then Testosterone. Low dose very compared to men but that is increasingly recognised as the main issue in perimenopause. after three days I felt like a young girl again (I'm 49) energy, self confidence, libido again. Its only licensed for men but specialises can prescribe by using the male product and using a tiny pea amount of gell once a day. It was the testosterone that gave me my life back- and i never even thought about it.

Hi i am in the process of trying to find help for my daughter who may have severe & aggravated pms or pmdd & im trying to work out who to see for the best outcome .....nick panay or prof john studd?

Please please help if you have any experience of these doctors. Its alot of money to waste if it doesnt work out !
Really appreciate any in put thank you. We live in the south so nhs referals are difficult to a london consultant.

PollyPerky · 16/12/2016 17:03

I don't see either personally, but if I was choosing I'd go for Panay simply because I've heard his approach is friendlier but that's purely subjective. His waiting list is very long even for private appts.

I know lots of people who see Dr Annie and rave about her but afaik she's retiring.

PossumInAPearTree · 16/12/2016 17:12

Aghhh, zombie thread.

PollyPerky · 16/12/2016 17:31

she retired several months ago now- maybe even a year or so.

Hi All,

Did the Studd regime work ? If so how long before it worked and how much Estrogel and Progesterone were you on? I am currently on the regime of Estrogel 2 pumps and 5mg testim gel.... no progesterone due to a full hysterectomy, been of this the last month after being on other regimes that didn't work.
Struggling on this regime... having bad bouts of mood swings and depression... still get hot flushes, dizzy head etc.... really struggling and have been the last year, not sure how much longer can carry on...

Anyone out there where the regime didn't work for them ?

Y x

Yvetter It might be better if you started a new thread of your own as this one is mainly about finding a specialist, so you might not get many replies.

The 'Studd' regime is not really that! What you are using is mainstream HRT available from most drs, although getting testim can be harder unless it's via a consultant.

You need to give it time. From what you have posted, you've been without estrogen for 10 years after a hysterectomy (apart from 3 years on HRT earlier.)

Understand how it's going to take your body a long time to recover from loss of estrogen for almost all your 40s. Losing your ovaries and not supplementing for all those years was likely to bring problems, I'm afraid.

The mood swings etc are down to loss of estrogen- it's just caught up with you a bit more now than before. You may also feel differently when using HRT initially, but the 'rule' is to give it 3 months at the very least. You probably also need more than 2 pumps. I was on 2 pumps from the word go, at 53, when I had my final period. You could try 3 pumps and see how that feels.

Hello
I have just tried to book an appointment to see Dr Studd and Dr Panay. both have long waiting times and I would like to see someone asap as I am feeling most peculiar ! Sweats insomnia and mad moods. Can anyone recommend anyone else in London ? Many thanks

Sara232 · 25/11/2017 09:48

How do I DM you ?

countyhall · 25/11/2017 19:22

Just emailed Prof Studd about an appointment...any reviews on how he has treated peri menopause gratefully received! x

PollyPerky · 25/11/2017 20:39

You do not need to spend ££££s seeing him. Most peri can be helped with standard NHS drugs (HRT if that's what you want) and lifestyle changes like diet and exercise and maybe supplements.

Zighy1 · 10/01/2018 08:41

Any other recommendations apart from Studd or Panay? The wait list is long and after another night tossing and turning I would like to see someone soon. Particularly interested in bio-identical hormones. Thanks

PollyPerky · 10/01/2018 10:35

Zighy- I've sent you a PM.

KFH64 · 13/01/2018 19:20

I saw Prof Studd for two years at the Chelsea & Westminster hospital after being referred by my GP. He really does know what he’s talking aboutSmile

AMANDA1408 · 17/08/2019 16:10

Hi,
I started taking BHRT about 6 months ago. Apparently ( just found out) that the Specialist Pharmacy (London) is owned by Marion Gluck.
Marian Gluck , London is a specialist in Menopause.

Marian Gluck trains people (nurses/doctors) to be able to run their own practices. Hence, my appointment; and "they" all give prescriptions to their patients, you've guessed it the ...."Special Pharmacy" London!

IThe question I want to ask, is, "Has anyone tried these BHRT- bioidentical hormones from this particular Compounding Chemist?

I am going to stop using mine because I believe they are not working for me;
Love to you all,
Booblet
