Cannabis and menopause

Anyone used cannabis to help alleviate symptoms of menopause? Don't fancy taking synthetic hrt or anti-depressants. Wondered if anyone had an experience?

Most HRT used now in the UK is bio identical- you can get oestrogen and progesterone on the NHS as a matter of course if you know what to ask for.

Can't comment on use of illegal drugs.

Thanks for that reply. What are bio-identical hormones? I am all new to this.

Cannabis is used medically in lots of places and for lots of conditions so I wondered if anyone had any experience or had read anything?

I had no idea OP and wondered why I had come through menopause with very little trouble Grin

Sounds good!

I wish we could have a good debate on the merits of using natural things for natural phases of life. I am going to do a bit of research...

I had my ovaries out on Friday.

RavenVonChaos · 05/01/2014 17:55

Wow ledkr. Have you also had hysterectomy?

Perhaps you can let us know if it helps...

No they left that!
I've not smoked weed for years tbh but I'd give it a go if it helped.
I'm currently awaiting the onslaught of symptoms to kick in.

Ledkr · 05/01/2014 17:59

Hash brownies anyone?

RavenVonChaos · 05/01/2014 18:09

Isn't it weird that in some parts of USA you can get it on prescription but here and in other parts of USA/world it is demonised?

I think it would be worth a try - it may work and surely must be better than prescription drugs.

I don't think I would lose any weight tho!

Especially eating all that toast and crisps.

RavenVonChaos · 05/01/2014 20:20

Yeah you would have to start using amphetamines to counteract the munchie weight gain. Then a bit of crack at the weekend just for a change Wink

NC regular here to share some anecdata Grin

I use cannabis fairly regularly (2-3 times a week) and am also perimenopausal, I don't specifically use it for meno symptoms, I just use it recreationally.

Which symptoms are you most concerned about? IME it's good for some but bad for others.

I have found in recent years that cannabis exacerbates memory problems quite a lot, contributes to depression by turning me into a bit of a stay-at-home and makes it harder to keep the weight off.

On the positive side, I have found it beneficial for anxiety and insomnia and it has eased me through a few periods from hell.

It's had no effect on hot flushes or night sweats.

Smoking it is obviously a bad idea, although if you're already a heavy smoker it will make little difference. Otherwise, look into recipes or a vapouriser.

Things I have found beneficial are St John's Wort, Yoga and mindfulness.

OP

Bio identical hormones are made in the lab but they have the same molecular structure as out own. There are many HRT preps with these- pills, patches and gels.

Without going into brand names which would take ages, most HRT which starts with prem ( eg Premarin) is made from horses urine and is not bio identical.

Your GP or gynae would know.

RavenVonChaos · 06/01/2014 07:24

Thanks for sharing Toxteth (was that an alexei style character). Interesting about poor memory - mine is awful at the moment. Definitely going to start yoga...

Jaffa I have been prescribed Evorel Sequi - have you ever heard of that?

Raven

There's a lot of info on this website and the forum if you want to post.

www.menopausematters.co.uk

all the HRT preps are listed down the left hand side of the site- green menu.

RavenVonChaos · 06/01/2014 19:27

Thanks Jaffa
