Mirena

Had mirena fitted in sept for constant bleeding. Still bleeding every day but not huge amounts but basically been bleeding overall since early spring.

Absolutely knackered all the time. Tender boobs like pregnancy feeling.

Is this normal with the coil and will it go away? Should I go back to GP? Any ideas be great.

Have you googled and seen what is 'normal' ?

In your situation I'd go back.

I had a normal copper coil and bled almost for 7 weeks- went back and it was half expelled- think it had been fitted incorrectly- dr had a job getting it in.

Thanks for posting, yes have googled but most says symptoms settle after 3 months but don't want to he a pain in the arse to GP just fed up with it all now.

Absolutely had no period problems ever until last spring so it's all a bit full on. I went for a hysteroscopy but the consultant immediately said mirena would be the best thing to do and as you do I agreed but feel I was hurried into this really.

I am 49, work full time and have 2 teens still at home 2 older but have never felt so bloody tired before. Usually excersise but have no energy and headaches which I never had before.

Dh is great but the constant bleeding is hardly making me feel sexy!!!
Grrrrrrr.

I don't have one, but have read up a lot as I have considered it. I have read that it can take 6 months for bleeding to settle, rather than 3 (and that is what the GP who wasn't keen on the idea told me).

Some people have extra progesterone with it if it does not, like cerazette. It may be worth going to the doctor to find out.

This was interesting, (about contraceptive use, rather than HRT/meno)
If you look round the site, it has figures on the bleeding/no periods etc and it does appear that some people have more bleeding than my first GP (the one trying to sell it to me) said.

That said, I have read posts from people who have had problems for a year then gone on to love it!

Thanks for the link, I suppose I could just wait another few months to see if the bleeding stops.

I just do feel that the consultant was on a mission and didn't really consider or discuss any other options.

As an aside there were 3 students sitting in the consulting room, 2 of whom were men and that threw me.

Ridiculous really as am a trained nurse.

Still it's different when it's yourself. Iycwim.

Had one now for 18 months.... Best thing ever- occasional spotting and no other side effects. Keep persevering for a while

RandomMess · 04/01/2014 09:08

I spotted every day for 6 months, I then spotted every month for a week/10 days. After nearly 2 years I had it out because the threads irritated me and made me itch.

I ended up having womb ablation to sort out my very heavy and long periods - best thing I ever did!

Bodypopper · 04/01/2014 15:57

summertime yes not nice but my usual kick ass self was get too vulnerable to say anything.

Thanks for the advice everyone I think I will persevere as kitty says. Glad you sorted RandomMess such a pain in the arse, no pun intended. Grin
