Do these sound like hot flushes?

I'm nearly 50 and must be peri-menopausal by now, but haven't had much in the way of symptoms other than periods not 100% as regular as the were and a little more variable re amount of bleeding and some mood swings / tiredness, but that's about it.

I sometimes get hot in bed, not every night, maybe a couple of times a week. It doesn't wake me up, but I end up throwing the covers off. I don't get this at any other time of the day. These don't sound like hot flushes as I've heard other people describe them, but could they be? I don't feel extremely hot when I get hot but I am hotter than I 'should be', not massively sweaty, no other features such as heart beating fast or feeling funny or whatever....or do hot flushes not involve those things?

Thanks.

Just to be a bit pedantic here- sorry!- hot flushes are daytime and night sweats are what happen in bed :)

It sounds a little bit 'peri' but not massively so.

Everyone is different. I had no peri symptoms at all apart from lighter periods until I was about 53 when I missed a couple of periods, then the mild hot flushes arrived roughly once an hour, and I felt hotter in bed with a bit of sweat running down my chest.

My flushes were not terrible like some women describe them, but they were hourly and embarrassing in a work situation 1:1 with men. I'd get a feeling like I was about to blush then the hotness would start at the bottom of my neck and rise upwards. It lasted about 30 secs- to a minute and I'd end up with a sweaty upper lip.

The biggest problem for me was not sleeping- waking up 3-4 times a night and feeling wide awake then of course knackered when it was time to get up.

Right thanks, night sweats they are! Good to understand the difference.

Definitely not getting hot flushes then, if they are in the daytime. I don't think I've had anything like you describe, Missbopeep.
