Should this have been prescribed?

Last week i went to see the Gynae, am 49, and have erratic periods extending to 14 days or none at all..So yes peri meno, but have been having pain in left hand side for over a year. Scans haven't revealed anything dicey in Ovaries, have 2 little Fibroids which i've had for 6 years or more..
She wants me to consider a Hysteroscopy next.

Gynae then prescribed something called Noresthisterone. Haven't taken it yet, but I've just looked it up on NHS Choices. They state:
"Your prescriber may only prescribe this with special care or may not prescribe it at all if you -
Have risk factors for developing bloodclots such as personal or family history.
Have Vericose veins.
Have Vaginal bleeding and the cause not known."

Now given i have very bad Varicose Veins, both my mother and Grandmother had DVT, and am advised to have a Hysteroscopy to eliminate any serious causes of bleeding, i shouldn't have been prescribed this surely?
I have to add at no point did the Gynae ask of any medical history and i've never seen her before...

What shall i do next? I've no follow up appointment but feel like there's been incompetency here..

Call the Gynae receptionist nd inform her about what you've found out. Maybe they can prescribe at their discretion, but so glad you checked.

Go see your GP? X

TBH I think you will find all is ok.

But it's unusual not to be asked for your family history UNLESS it was in your notes from your GP- did your GP refer you or was this gynae someone you found and self referred?

That drug is one which is given to prevent bleeding if taken all the time- it's the same as the mini pill and can be taken by women who also want to delay a period. It's a progestin which is one of the main drugs in combined HRT- women on HRT take it for a few days each month, or every day. So all the usual possible side effects can occur but very rarely.

I'd make an appt with your GP and ask about it.
OR contact the gynae yourself via her office and say you have some questions.

Thank you Bo Peep..

Was referred by GP, for a possible Ovarian cyst which i haven't got.

I will definitely talk to him if i cant talk to the gynae, as not sure i want to risk it..
