Help! I've always had regular set your clock by them periods, (despite having PCOS) and I always ovulated regularly with lots of signs/ symptoms.

I'm 43 and haven't had a period for two months - oh and I'm defintely not pregnant as my partner is a woman. Grin. I also haven't ovulated since before my last period in May.

So.... Where had my period gone??! This is the first one that's gone astray - although I've had my usual PMS symptoms for about two - three weeks now - sore boobs, big stomach, massively tired. Aaarrgghhh...

Am I being too quick to assume this is the beginning of the menopause? I know my mum had hers early - is there a genetic link?

Is it worth going to the GP or should I just wait and see what happens? Other than the usual PMS crappiness I haven't got any other symptoms...

Am hoping that starting this thread will make it happen so I can pretend I'm not getting old and it was all in my head. Smile

It may be.

I am similar age - 44 - and my periods were always bang on 28 days. Most recently mine have started getting more of a 24/25 day cycle.

So not the same as your missing in action version, but a change.

Ugh - and I feel so young!!!!!

I guess you could go see the GP, but I don't know if/what they would do about it. Is there a specific test??

I'm just shy of 43, had a reliable cycle between 27 and 29 days and now I have wandering periods that go between 21 and 36 days.

I think your Doctor can test your hormone levels and look at the possibility of HRT and whatever else with you, my symptoms are not that bothersome as yet so I haven't looked into it in detail.

Gulp!

Thanks - I think! Good to know I'm not alone anyway. Think I'll download a period tracker and start logging dates - if it ever makes a re-appearance!

Hi there

Hormone test cna be an unreliable test of when you are entering the peri-menopausal stage as they fluctuate wildly over this time - but might be worth having anyway.

I wouldn't recommend going on HRT until you start to get torublesome symptoms because while you are stillhaving a cycle - albeit irregular, then that can break through and you can end up having more unpredictable bleeds. Just a personal view though.
