Hi. I've had no period for 6months. Im 44 and though under a bit of stress G.P thinks in age range for menopause so I have had bloods done for hormone levels.
This is all fine but she is taking about hrt.
I have no symptons apart from just stopping suddenly, no moods, flushes, irregular cycle.
My g.p is concerned however as I was on depo provera contraceptive injection for over 10 years.
Why is this a concern and should I go on hrt if menopause has happened??

I don't know about Depo Provera - probably one for Dr Google.

If you aren't having hot flushes etc, the one other good reason for menopausal women to go on HRT is to combat osteoporosis, which becomes a risk for women after the menopause. However, I don't understand why she thinks you're menopausal if your hormone levels are OK. Probably better off asking the GP!

I had early menopause (40ish) and couldn't decide whether to take get or not.
I had hot flushes, but few other symptoms.

In the end I decided to take it after research advises that anyone taking it before average age of menopause (51) is merely replacing hormones that would ordinarily have been in the body had it not gone through an early menopause. Iyswim?

It's to help protect against osteoporosis as much as relief of symptoms.

Silly autocorrect - hrt not get

Bluepetticoat · 27/04/2012 16:45

Menopause befroe 45 is considered "early" and puts you at risk from cardio vascular problems and osteoporosis compared to women who have meno at 51=52 ( average in UK).

This is why HRT is advised.

What re the long term side effects of the injection? There must be some so ask your GP. Is she/he saying that you have had enough hormones and shouldn't have more?

if they don't know what to do them you should ask for a referral to a gynae.

Only symptoms i had was low oestrogen, some hot (flashes) have just been put on kliofem , developed some side effects which i did have before, hypersensitivity, itching.

the head tingling not sure what all this is about not pleasant. I am desperate to get my body back to normal, insomnia causing huge problems as i am in pain with the hyper.
Cannot decide whether to try changing the prescript scared of cold turkey effect or chance another hrt with other side effects.

anybody out there have any ideas?
