I'm just wondering if anyone has had (or is having) one?

Most of the info available on the menopause has to do with the various symptoms and difficulties that can be involved, leading to the impression that for most women it's a problematic time.

Some mumsnetters must surely have had a relatively symptom free time?
I'm 46, periods are all over the place, but so far no other symptoms..

Is there anyone here who hardly noticed 'the change'? :)

Yes. Just dwindled away. No hot flushes, no dryness. Lucky me. No libido though :(

lovesadirtylie · 12/02/2012 22:32

thanks for sharing bigscarymum (but sorry to hear about the loss of libido)

bumping my thread, cuz surely some mumsnetters passed through menopause without too much hassle? :)

why do you want to know?

If you are okay then that's all that counts!

FWIW you are prob too young and its too soon for symptoms to kick in- give yourself another 5-10 years Smile

MrsSquirrel · 20/02/2012 14:55

I haven't had to much hassle, as in no hot flushes or night sweats. I haven't been period-free for an entire year, though, so not 'officially' menopausal.

I have put on weight, about half a stone. Also experience loss of libido.

lovesadirtylie · 20/02/2012 21:53

Amelia I think I'm just looking for a bit of reassurance that it's not always a problematic time..something contrary to my background idea that menopause is necessarily traumatic.

the stats are that 75 % of women have problems. it is different for everyone.

lovesineffable · 24/02/2012 11:46

thanks, thats good to know:)

Mine was v straightforward in terms of symptoms. Erratic periods were the only symptom I was sure I was having. As I was in my late 30s the doctor kept telling me it was stress but I know it wasn't and this was eventually confirmed by blood tests showing my FSH was through the roof.

As I was so young I needed additional tests re bone strength and now take HRT to keep my bones strong as my oestrogen production has stopped 10-15 years earlier than it should.

I guess the new me has slightly drier skin (and is drier down there), minimal libido and weighs half a stone more. But am aware i have got off amazingly lightly compared to many women. I'm 42 now but have hardly told any of my friends I'm post menopausal. I can only imagine the envy in 10 years time if they are having terrible symptoms and I admit I sailed through it 10 years ago.

myfriendflicka · 02/05/2012 16:47

Have not had a period for at least a year. I haven't lost my libido, and I haven't had any flushes. I am over 50 (just Wink) I do have a bit of trouble sleeping but it isn't terrible. Feel a bit down and tired sometimes, but that could be commuting, and having a bad time emotionally over the last four years (widowed). I have not really put on weight, but I do exercise a lot.

My mother is dead, so can't ask her if she had a relatively benign menopause or not! Are these things inherited? It would be interesting to find out.

A friend of mine found marion gluck, a GP who specialises in the menopause, very helpful. She prescribes hormones that are identical to the one's the body produces. This is supposed to stop HRT side effects and hazards. It costs though, it isn't the NHS.

Bioidentical hormones are a bit of a con TBH- they are still hormones and it doesn't matter if they are"natural" or made in a lab.

well, I haven't had a period for ....er....4 years?
I do get hot flushes but they aren't too bad, I just take my cardi off (tres stylish)
no dryness
tired, but then life is busy
flushes better if I exercise regularly
but, my weight is creeping up and so is cholesterol
on the whole, not too bad

Shallishanti · 04/05/2012 19:59

and not having periods is a major plus Grin

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 05/05/2012 12:07

Other than erratic periods, have not really had ony other symptoms, other than one hot flush - at least I think it was, my upper body became boiling and I had to take off my coat, scarf, jumper in the middle of Prague where the temp was just aove freezing. 15 mins later I was fine!

OneHandFlapping · 05/05/2012 12:11

I was one of the lucky ones. I just felt a bit hot from time to time for a couple of years, and started missing periods for gradually longer and longer. I'm now 3 years since my last period, and fitter and thinner than I have ever been.

It was huge relief. I was worried about turning into the witch from hell, and becoming so bonkers I could no longer function properly in day to day life.
