40, tested post memo a while back, still bleeding but nothing untoward. Just recently noticed I don't seem to a discharge anymore. For a while it was unusually heavy. Now nothing. Any had this experience?

you are 40 and are post meno? If you are really post meno, you should not be bleeding. really post-meno means no period for a year. If you have low hormones and are bleeding, then you are peri meno.

Have you been offered HRT because you should and ought to be taking it.

If you don't, you risk serious problems with osteoporosis later on as you are now without hormones roughly 10 years sooner than "normal".

Vaginal secretions tend to dry up when your hormones are low- this is why women often need lube during sex, sex can be painful post meno, and why local vaginal HRT is used.

I think you ought to see your dr to discuss what really is going on with your hormones, and discuss HRT.

Thanks Amelia, you've given me really good advice in the past. The doctor told me to forget the test results, which I have and I think I'm just peri. Im not 'active' and haven't been for some time so don't know whether it would be painful or not, but definitely seem to have all but completely dried up! It's really strange. No one has mentioned HRT. My doctor suggested the marena (sp?) coil, I don't want it. I'm not suffering really so I'm not too bothered. No one seems to think I need it. Xmas Smile

oh glad that I've been some help before Smile

if you are not suffering then no need to do anything- but even if you aren't having sex you can get sore and uncomfortable if you are dry, so don't just think it's connected with being "active" Smile sometimes women find they have to wee more etc and it can be down to falling hormones.

if this happens, trot off to your dr and ask about local HRT creams which can help- don't suffer in silence.

The Mirena is a contraceptive coil which is used for heavy periods, as a contraceptive, and sometimes as the progestion part of HRT. if you are not having periods or sex then you don't need one!

thanks amelia. I'm okay at the moment, not really suffering at all. I've just gone on to thyroxine and hope that's helping sort out some of my other symptoms such as insomnia and lack of energy. Sadly, I seem to be putting more and more weight on, but then I have stopped exercising so it's no wonder really. I have noticed I get a bit itchy down below sometimes Blush but not enough for me to be worried or need anything to help. Smile
