Feel like I'm about to come on all the time - is this normal?

Have been told I am perimenopausal (aged 48) regular periods until last October and then 3 months of week on, week off periods. GP concerned about possibility of cancer so saw gynae consultant who was happy it wasn't anything sinister but was very keen to give me an endometrial ablation to resolve the bleeding. He took a further sample and warned that I would experience light spotting and some cramping immediately afterwards. In fact I had heavy bleed for 48hrs and cramping for 10 days. GP said it was a common reaction to having the womb sample taken.

Since then no periods at all (10 weeks and counting) but the last few weeks have been feeling like I was about to come on all the time, sore boobs, really tired, back pain and nausea. A friend who has been perimenopausal for about a year says she often feels like that too. Assuming that it's normal but does this continue through to the menopause (or god help me) even longer?

You do get what they call phantom periods- all the signs of one coming but it doesn't- no bleed.
It shouldn't last longer than normal PMT.

it is caused by low hormones- especially low progesterone. I'd ask to see a gynae or ask your GP to try you on some hormones.

Re. the bleeding- it is not normal to bleed heavily after a biopsy. I had one and had spotting for a day- I also had a hysteroscopy- camera in uterus and another biopsy- a few months later- and only spotted for a day or less.

cabbageroses thanks for the info. Will go and see the GP if I get much more of this. It's been constant for several weeks and I have never suffered from PMT.
