Is this peri-menopause or something sinister?

I know break-through bleeding can be a sign of uterine cancer and so I am worred that, at 45 (and my Mother didn't become menopausal until about 56), I have had a couple of periods two weeks after the previous one.

The first was slightly different coloured to begin with (sorry, TMI, but it was watery/browny) and I am having the same at the moment.

I am struggling not to put on weight and unable to shift what I have put on (though to be fair it is my first year without having to push a heavy buggy for a decade) and a bit bloated.

Thanks in advance.

pretty sure it is your hormones! Uterine cancer affects women mainly over 60 and after menopause.

sounds like it's peri- can go on for up to 10 years.

Mid cycle spotting is not uncommon in peri menopause.

Great Shock. Thanks, though - good to know.

I'd still get it checked out with your GP.

OK, this is very normal and I'm sure you've no need to worry. BUT I would never want to discourage you from checking out with your GP. Sadly, many peri-menopausal symptoms could also be something more sinister. I think it's down to you to decide how careful you want to be. Personally, I put everything down to incipient menopause, but I wouldn't recommend that approach.

i am roughly same age (46) and my periods were all over the place. sadly i have started to miss the odd af (two so far) although i feel like i am going to come on (well did, has faded off now but been bloated and had crampings but no af!!). my mother is just getting over urterine cancer but she is 70, and oddly enough my sister called me today to say she saw her gyni today for a check up and gyni said most uterine cancers come after meno plus (quote) this is the best cancer to get (!) as treatable (as long as you catch it early). my suggestion is to go to dr for a check up, they may give you a blood test and possibly a routine scan just to check your innards (ie uterine thickness and ovaries). i had this done around 6 months ago although i am paranoid again due to my mother getting early stage uterine 'c' and my grandmother dying of it. tough on us ladies getting old. i have had really short cycles ie periods every two weeks for a phase too, probably what you have. my main sympton is TERRIBLE hormones (pmt feeling) off and on all the time plus i have gained weight :( go to dr to put your mind at rest, sure you are fine, for for an mot

Thanks for this thread it has made me feel far less apprehensive. At 46 I am currently having another period after a two week gap. First one was horrendous and this one is easier but still there. As I type my cheeks are scarlet!!! I am about to make a Drs appt to be on the safe side but will be trying to do this "naturally". Good luck everyone!!
