Am I getting my hopes up?

Will try and make this short. In October 2009 I went off the pill as I had finally decided that it was time for a second child (DS turning 3 in Feb of the next year). Took it quite seriously as far as timing and effort goes iykwim. Went to the gynae in the February to make sure everything was ok, and it was.

Then my periods stopped and by June I was concerned and went to the gynae again. Blood tests showed that I had started menopause and my results were off the chart. Got a rush appointment at a fertility specialist who repeated the tests and was told sorry, you have no chance of conceiving without donor eggs. Obviously devastated but have come to terms with it as well as you can.

In the November, having just turned 38, I had a period. Very excited, and a little bit worried, I made another appointment at the gynae but was told that this is normal and I may have one now and again.
However, I have had a period every month since then. They aren't light, and the cycles vary from 21 to 40 days, but they seem like normal periods.
So, my question is. Is it worth going back to the gynae AGAIN, having the tests AGAIN, only to have my heartbroken AGAIN?

It's always worth investigating surely?

The other option is to continue to TTC and see what happens!

On the down side, you can have periods that are anovular- bleeding but no eggs.

I had my last period around 53-54 but I hardly missed any until they stopped- I had a gap of about 4 months, then they restarted, then I missed 1 or 2 cycles again before the last one. I am sure that I could not have conceived then even though I was having bleeds.

HOWEVER- my blood tests at 52 showed i was post-meno- I went on to another 18 months of periods- so you never can tell.

Fingers crossed for you.Smile

Thanks Cabbageroses. You inspired me / spurred me on to phone the fertility clinic and be reminded of what my FSH and AMH levels were and discuss "chances". It wasn't a positive conversation but at least I have some sort of closure now.
